Delete Older "For Sale" Posts
« on: December 10, 2011, 06:26:07 PM »
We need to delete older "for sale" posts and dealer's listings.  I suggest 90 days.  These listings have rendered the search function useless.   For example, I tried searching older threads about linen-backing and ended up with dozens of "for sale" posts.

What about threads that were never responded to.  Shouldn't it be the responsibility of the person that started the topic to tell folks the not longer are looking for stuff.  Or should we move to a Charlie's want list type deal...

You didn't use the advanced search function.

I'm not a believer in deleting threads.
I am fully against it. Each thread is part of history, and sometimes you might just find a poster you've been looking for thanks to an older thread; it's happened to me with regards to some great posters.

What is needed is separate sections for eBay auctions, private sales/trades, and dealer sales/trades.
This would differentiate between the three and make searching in the For Sale section easier.
Best wishes,
Adam

I deleted all of my old sales posts to alleviate the clutter.
They are irrelevant now, anyway.
Holiday and T have not chimed in yet, so the rest should remain until they decide if they should be deleted or not.

Personally, I use one thread and update as I go.

I think this is the way to go in the future.  That's what they do on EB and it seems to work well, so that anyone who is selling has only one FS thread running at any time.

That's what you mean, right?
Best regards,

Holiday

the only problem with this is that I can't change (and I don't want the option setup again) the thread title etc

as far as I'm concerned you can delete my old threads.
but be sure to delete all Earthlings first

I have just been to two of my "wants" threads, and was able to delete them O.K.  there is a remove topic button on the left at the bottom.  Seems to work fine.

Lot of talking, no action! There's no reason to junk up this forum with ancient "for sale" posts for posters that were sold months and years ago.

Junk up the forum?  Out of sight out of mind.  Holiday/T can you set a auto-delete/expiration on certain threads?  Ergo post in the for sale section will delete after "x"-days...

Or can they be deactivated and not included in searches; so just in case someone wanted to dredge back through them they could still do so.  That way if someone's thread gets "deactivated" he/she could just bump back to active...
