1) Japanese B1 & B2 - Thoughtful, varied art and great paper quality
2) UK Quads - It's where I grew up, and is my greatest memory as a young filmgoer
3) US 1-sheets - Variety, and classic titles
4) Australian 1-sheet and daybill - Some extremely rare artwork
5) Italian - 2-Foglio and Locandino - Country of origin art

1) Japanese B5s

OK, I'm not just saying that because I sell them - it's the other way around. I sell them because I collect them.

I realise that most members here prefer larger sizes, and I definitely prefer larger sizes for framing on the wall. But here's my reasons for collecting B5's:

- a) I love Japanese movies ... so that's the main factor.
- b) Easy to store. I have several thousand, neatly categorised in folders - taking up just one shelf in a bookcase.
- c) Unique artwork, and the Japanese design aesthetic
- d) Easy to view. Just take out a folder and browse like a book.
- e) Specialty papers and inks, and the fact they are almost always in mint condition.
- f) It's a cheap way to satisfy my collecting habit!

2) USA. Mainly 50's monster movies, and late 60's psychedelic music posters. These are what's on my walls.
3) Belgians. Love the hand-drawn artwork on some titles.

I'm a complete poster whore and have no allegiance to any country, size, style or language.  While my collection is weighted towards US 1-sheets, that is mainly due to accessibility.  UK quads are catching up quickly and the stuff on my walls -- meaning: the ones I love the most -- are in every size and from tons of countries.  Currently framed and on display includes:

1 - US 1-sheet
2 - Int'l 1-sheet
1 - UK 1-sheet
2 - French 1P
1 - Italian 2P
1 - Cuban
1 - East German
2 - Polish
1 - Czech (small)
1 - US WC
1 - US Insert
1 - US HS
2 - French Med.
1 - Alamo silkscreen
1 - 2'x8' wallpaper section of Japanese chirashi

Soon to be added will be another small Czech, a UK quad and possibly another French 1P.

Well I love them all, but have mostly argentineans (probably because I was born here  ;D)
Not a patriotic thing at all, the main reason is budget. Most local 1sh have the same art as their COO counterparts (sometimes badly rendered though...), are cheaper and of course, easier to get for me.
Others have different -and usually better- art, and others are just... damn ugly.
I do have 10-15 films I get all the paper I can for any country. They are all pre 1970, so the art is usually different from poster to poster.

So far:
- Italy (1p, locandinas and fotobustas)
- US (1sh, lobby cards, 40x60, stills, still negatives, WC, pressbooks)
- Australia (daybill, 1sh, 3 sheet)
- UK (quad)
- Spain (Heralds)
- Sweden (insert)
- Denmark (program)
- Germany (programs, A1 and A0, lobby cards)
- Austria (programs)
- Belgium (2 diff. sizes)
- Mexico (1sh, jumbo lobby cards, azteca lobby cards)
- Yugoslavia

and probably a few others I don`t remember now.

1) US 30x40, one-sheets (most didn't me cost nuthin', besides, we all know that they are the only true movie poster), inserts - in that order...
2) Thierry hates "French Grande"s
3) Japanese B2 or reasonably priced B1's
4) US 6 Sheets
5) UK Quad
6) French Door Panel
6) Italian 1 Panel
7) US half-sheets, banners, 40x60
8.)Aussie one sheets and daybills
9) Any quality image from any country.  Difficulty: Image must have some relation to the film it depicts.  This rules out most Eastern Block countries.

OK I'll play some.

Started off with the ol US 1 Sheets (lots of them for the first 10 or so years of collection +1 Grace Kelly Green Fire Insert), then moved to buying a few French posters, then the large format subway posters then I started in on the Jap B2s.  I then kind of had a love affair with Italian stuff (lots of Italian stuff), back to Japanese then to scattered Argentinian and Mexican one sheets (mix in some Belgians and Hindi paper) and then had a fling with inserts for a month or two and then back to US one sheets.

Your right I am a paper whore.

I think someone mentioned hating Belgians; I do like these but since everyone else hates them they have little or no value except the big title yet retailers want good money for them.

Yeah so, what you going to do about it...  Hater.  It's Sibylla that I want, you can have her otherwise...  Man that smile; can you image making love to that woman in an open air palace with cold marble floors, smelling of incense and rose water. Damn...

French Affiches - usually the ones representing the French production movies as opposed to French versions of the US movie; I get excited by the stuff from the 50s and 60s
Aust Daybill - 50s designs are very sexy

As I have just picked up my first ever German last week I am going to start looking around at the styles that have come from that country. Could be an expensive travel itinerary

Everything else.  :P

Japanese all sizes, US & International onesheets, a smattering from other countries.

I started with US double sided onesheets for display in lightboxes that I built at home. Then came Japanese posters, one of the first being a B1 of Sayuri (Memoir's of a Geisha) that was misidentified as a onesheet.  My first real love, though, are advertising posters of all kinds, especially those used to advertise things in movie theater frames and lightboxes other than the movies themselves.  My love of Japanese posters about equals that, but I have to say, I would first get rid of the Japanese collection before letting go the advertising collection, even though the Japanese collection is worth far far more than the advertising collection.
Best regards,

Holiday

I strongly second that.  thumbup

Anything I like from anywhere in the world, not fussy at all.
But of course, my first and best true love will always be the daybill.

To follow up on this topic, this group of fine individuals is the reason I like French posters most:

Grinsson
Soubie
Noël
Mascii

And BTW, I haven't even began to collect those guys.  This is the easy stuff, not the great stuff by all means.

There's a definite style with the French artists during the late 50s and early 60s - lot of Blue/Black and often with a bold/neon 3rd colour (pink, or yellows), has a very film noir look about them even though it could be a comedy! It's a style I like a lot atm.
