Yes. They shipped the dated poster to theater owners with instructions to return or destroy the non-dated one.
Do you have any evidence that they asked for it back?

I guess that could have been so they could send them overseas...

Dude that was 20 years ago.  The only evidence I have is the non-dated poster which I kept when I worked at the theater.  I wasn't about to destroy or return it and I wanted it so I took it.

I was just curious if you could shed any light on whether or not this was an actual full recall.

You weren't the only one who worked at a theater around here. I still have both versions from that time.

All I remember was that when the new poster came via courier with instructions from the studio telling us to immediately remove and destroy or return to them the existing poster and replace it with the dated version, we removed the non-dated poster from the marquee and put up the dated one and I kept the non-dated one.

So...let me get this straight.

It's STILL a recalled poster?  :P

Updates:

Predator 2: Someone wrote me and said it was withdrawn because the poster says "Christmas" but it was actually released in November, according to IMDB.

Mel, that is correct.  The release date was changed from December to November.  The advance poster was recalled because it said  "Hunting Season opens again... this Christmas" to simply "Coming Soon"

A second poster featuring a less attractive image still of the Predator had the corrected date  "He's in town with a few days to kill... this Thanksgiving."   Personally, I liked the artwork featured on the Advanced poster much better.

If you are referring to the Batman Returns Advance non-dated then that is correct.

The Hungarian distributor for the film planned on using this to promote it.  Fox Searchlight, the US distributor who apparently owns the rights, said HELL NO.  In this digital age, I am not sure whether this one was recalled or if the kabosh was put on it before it was even printed.

Thanks.  You know what you did.

I'm a little surprised no one mentioned this one:

I think the reason it was never mentioned is because the very first post in the thread by Mel has a link with a list of pictures and titles of recalled posters and that is one of them.

Also, it's been pretty beaten to death as a topic going back to the days of Movie Poster Talk...

This character poster for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was recalled.  According to this article: "it was deemed to be too sexy for a sanctioned release by the MPAA 'for nudity — curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown.'  I wonder if any were sent to theaters?  It's an excellent poster.  8)

Yeah, nice use of font/text design and placement.

(Heard it wasn't even printed, or Mel would have had it on his wall by now).

The 2250 pixel (vertical) image is all over the Internet but that's too small to print as a 27x40.  Send me a PM if you know where a larger image is:

^ Thought same thing. Almost a bus shelter/banner hybrid so many new theaters have these days. Noticed one the other night for the new X-Men film in a local movie house here.

If Louie bites the bullet on this one, then we are really onto something special.
