THE DUDE DESIGNS: Movie Poster Artist Tom Hodge
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:14:35 AM »
Artist Tom Hodge has that 'grindhouse' thing going on big time.
I first noticed his work at impawards.com for HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, starring Rutger Hauer, and I am totally impressed.  While I don't own any of his fabulous posters yet, I thought it was appropriate to post some of them here for anyone who might not be familiar with this rising young star in the movie poster illustration field.  I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him.

Tom has a great blogspot detailing his work, his method and his madness.  Check it out NOW.

I know Tom a bit. He's a great artist and a very nice guy to talk to.
This 'Hobo' poster really kickstarted his career. He now has so many requests he had to quit his day job and move to full-time poster designing.
Which hopefully means studios slowly move from photoshopped faces back to art.

That is great news.  This hobby -- and the industry -- needs more talent like his.
I sent him a link to the forum when I started this thread and I suspect that he's popped in from time to time.

Tom Hodge is at it again.
Here's his latest poster and a link where he explains how he arrived at the design.

Tom Hodge continues to crank out some funky designs...

The Poster Collective just conducted this Q&A with Hodge, in which he discusses his favorite movie posters:

They're cool, good to see some old-school exploitation style poster art.

Tom Hodge really captures the spirit of giallo horror with this brand-new design for The Editor.

That is a new poster?  Nice concept and well executed!  Not sure I like the "off register" printing, assuming it's intentional -- it really kills the crispness of the image.

I contacted Tom about a year ago.  It seems his style was heavily influenced by Thai poster art.  I, of course, was pretty excited to hear that.

The film looks to be a hoot -- especially if you appreciate giallo.

Wasn't sure if I should post this in the Mondo thread or here.
Tom just whipped this out for Mondocon 2015.

I know there's a few fellow Tom Hodge admirers on APF. So you might be interested to see they have turned WolfCop into a comic: https://www.dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C72513025275301011.
Even better, a sequel is on its way and the poster is a very cool riff on an 80s Sly Stallone classic:

The latest from Tom Hodge revealed today.
Whether it'll get widespread print distribution is anyone's guess, but they usually do.
