Agreed, that is pretty steep.  I believe I got mine off the bay after i watched it sit at a BIN of $35 for a long time.

I think that documentary is discussed elsewhere on these boards.

I managed to find it on youtube I think and, as humble as Struzan is, I found the documentary content a bit wanting.

After having heard for the 18th time how Struzan 'just nailed it', I was hoping for a bit more insight into how the man himself worked.  It never came.

Nice to see a poster artist discussed at all though.

Hi All, Does anyone have any insight on what the differences are between these two 1984 Police Academy posters?

This one looks like it might have the GAU logo in addition to NSS840035 and NSS text block:

How can you tell it reads 003?  Police Academy is indeed the 35th movie released in 1984 (it came out in March) according to NSS.  I cannot see on Bruce's picture whether it has a 5 or not.  If it doesn't, it's a printer mistake.  Any other discrepancies are simply because the posters were printed at different locations.  East, West, South...

Nothing out of the ordinary here imho.

Ha sorry I should have given more detail. 

It reads "84003" on the folded poster I first found on eBay (seller = partners65).  I then googled additional images to see if other examples existed and I was able to find a few additional websites selling the same "style" poster (same formatting/text blocks at bottom) with the same "84003". 

And yes I cannot tell 100% from Bruce's images (he has several posters of this same "style" but all are difficult to zoom in on the NSS#) only that the formatting/text blocks at the bottom look identical to the one on eBay and other sites, and I guess I convinced myself that the blurry zoomed-in NSS# on Bruce's poster images had the same typo "84003".

Thanks for your input T.  That's very interesting regarding different NSS locations may have slightly different versions for different posters.  I guess this means I actually now have at least two 1sh to buy for this movie :/

And I would advise you to stay away from this rabbit hole.  There are a lot of variations between posters.  Sometimes more than 2.  Look at the Star Wars style A.  You have 4.  At this point, I think people are just being ridiculous.  Oh wait, I do own the 4 Star Wars

I completely agree that I need to stay away from that deep hole that is collecting variants.  I was (partially?) kidding.  My goal is to get a representative 1sh for each work Struzan (and many other artists) did and then once satisfied with that collection, consider adding variants that are unique enough and will not break the bank, but probably more likely identify new genres to start collecting.  I mean there are probbably some titles I will not own for quite a while (or ever) simply due to the shear cost, for example any of the original Star Wars posters! (Revenge of the Jedi may never happen as I would rather put that money toward buying a house in the south of France and retire.)

Thnaks T.  Yes he did quite a few and it seems like part of the rabbit hole will be trying to find the more obscure works of his that may have only been featured in foreign posters.  I have a smaller book of his but I really probably need to invest in the Oeuvre book, which I assume has a complete list of the works with pictures (his website has a list but not necessarily photos of everything).

Does anyone know which of these (if any) posters used part or all of Drew's art?  The first one looks similar but different and has a signature by "Greisen" but I can't find any information on that artist on google. The one on the right does look very similar, particularly the cave scene.  The middle one I have no clue but seems like it could be his style and I thought I can across a site (or two?) that attributed the middle poster to him.

Thanks for your knowledge. That is the only one I found a reference to him online.

I tried to respond to a Mother Lode post of his on Twitter but heard nothing back. His website contact info seems to be taken down as well. I don't have Facebook or Instagram and only really ever had Twitter to promote our labs research etc. but even these days I barely check it, maybe once a month. Do you have any ideas about how else to contact him?
