Okay, so I wasn't a complete idiot on that Thunderball 6sht, since Bruce's copy has just passed what I paid at Heritage Signature a couple months ago :)

realistically, what anyone else wants to pay should be meaningless. You paid what you paid because you wanted to buy it. Why should you need validation that someone else will pay more?

Sean and I discuss all the time our expectations about selling our collections and neither one of us ever expects to get out in a positive manner, but all the time in between now & when I lose my money, I'm enjoying the stuff that I own and fortunately, I like to look at my stuff - even when it's packed away. I'll just take a packed away box & open it up

Because if you read my previous posts I bought the 6sht on a whim.  I had just been overbid on something big, can't remember what now, and wanted to get something else right away.  That poster was it, not something I truly desired.  Then after the fact I was like, shit, I spent too much money on this (I hate spending too much money) so it's good to see that I didn't after all, and if anything, got it at the right price.  I was just answering my own post from a week ago.

I generally only see people talking to themselves down on the corner. They're usually holding a book up in the air & telling everyone that eternal damnation awaits

Another record low EMP auction result!

Naw, mysteriously sold for triple past EMP/HA auctions, maybe rare variant(?). Many available cheaper on eBay.

The coloured rating box is the key here but yes there seem to be cheaper options available...

Rolled is the key here.  I have never heard of a rolled blue/green ratings box poster.  Rolled white ratings box like this one exist, but are quite rare.

Maybe this lock requires two keys?  ;)

But of course you're spot on with this copy being rolled to explain the result!

I own a couple folded Halloweens and a rolled white rating.  Mint condition.  Paid $250 in '13.  Can't believe someone paid $2k more to own a green rating.

So how about a thread to discuss unusual, unexpected, and/or outrageous auction results AFTER they are over?

IMHO no one should discuss a PENDING auction - the spoils should go to those who take the time to find the good auction deals!

So let's start with one that just ended a few minutes ago on movieposterbid.com

Ferris Bueller International one sheet for $1,112 - WTF!

Huh? Someone want to explain that?

Re: Post-auction analysis - OMGs!, LOLs!, WTFs!, whatev..

Usually, I "shoplift" pretty much everything. But somewhat sure these three acronyms popped into my noggin' then

It sounds like the combination of the green ratings box AND it being a rolled copy makes it quite rare.

And rarity will get the bidders going, that's for sure.

And what is the style with the "white rating" that you have? In looking at emp's auction history, they have offered both folded and rolled OS with the "black" and "green" ratings box, but never a copy with a "white" version.

Different ways of describing the same poster — white ratings box makes more logical sense to me as you could never really have a black ratings box on a black background poster!

This one is interesting.

The seller described it as a 27x40 UK quad for the 1955 sci fi flick, Tarantula.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/TARANTULA-27x40-UK-Quad-Vintage-Movie-Poster-Original-1955-/222758240702?hash=item33dd6d01be%3Ag%3ATqwAAOSw4PxaNSjh&nma=true&si=vaCX2z%252BDHoCuxGPr%252F8Wd6O2n99A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Looking at the completed listing, it shows that this item sold for $15,400.00 (and was originally listed at $22K), with an added $329.00 mailing fee.

But when using one of the online sites/tools that will show what an item actually sold for, it turns out that this poster went for $2750.00 (it was a Best Offer that was accepted), so quite a difference from the published, "SOLD" price listed on ebay itself.

Thanks, Jeff.  I've always wondered what the actual selling price was on some items that listed an unbelievable sold price.  It's weird to me that "untrue" selling prices can be shown as supposed fact.  Not good for the hobby.  Okie

I wonder if when a Best Offer is submitted to a seller, say, after a listing closes, if the ebay software has no way to rectify or update that? I mean... think about the final value fee  a seller has to pay on $15K versus $2750.00, too.

A HUGE difference.  faint2.gif

Another by tloce, selling for a reduced price of $4250.00 (discounted from $8500.00, and not a Best Offer).

And with nothing more than the typical, smaller, poorly lit photo that was not even "zoomable."

Amazing.  :o

This more uncommon Jaws 30x40 just sold for a high bid of $610.00

It had 25 watchers and remained at $354.90 until the last 6 seconds, when the snipe bids flew in.

Still don't 'get' 30x40s, when they aren't UK quads.

Did they have special boxes to fit 'em in as well, or were they more for pinning up?

I can proudly say that I don't own one, and never will.  Never understood it either.  It's just a one sheet with wider borders.
