YOWZA! This 30x40 1951rr Frankie has been the most-watched MP for 10 (!) straight days with 90 (!) watchers:

I MUCH prefer the original drawn artwork on this 30x40, as compared to the photo cut and paste job on the other example, which looks a little sloppy (edges dont match and part of the windmill was covered over). Plus the drawn image of Frank on the original is very well done, imho, and the "unpasted" version would be my first choice, hands down.  notworthy.gif

I agree with you Jeff, the original hand-drawn art is 100% better than the awful cut-and-paste job of the other version.  What an odd thing to do to a perfectly nice poster...

I'll have to look for his examples, too. I went thru all 410 examples from the 1950s that emp has sold and none of those had added, pasted imagery attached to them.

I see one in the very first row - http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/4701255.html

Won't even bother to check further after that.

Bingo. (Best to view and sherlock more closely).

cheers, Sean.

I wonder what the original imagery underneath looks like on the one you referenced.

There are many examples of B/W photos on these 30x40s but those photographic images were printed originally on those particular pieces.

Did you ever actually look at the posters?  Doh.gif

There ARE tons of 30x40s with pasted on photos. Here are a few:

http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/search/tipped%2520in/tag/xtype%253AThirty%2520by%2520Forty/archive.html

Many of these paper banners have them as well:

We (eMoviePoster.com) hold 2,500 to 4,000 auctions every four weeks.
We have auctioned more movie paper for more money (in real sales) than any auction in the world.
We have the longest continuously running auctions of any auction, with over 1,914,280 to date from over 3,192 consignors.

I agree, Ben.

But as they say... "beauty (or what was considered "better" imagery) was/is in the eye of the beholder."

And, what local theatre owners felt they needed to do to bring in the crowds.  I wonder if you shine a light through the poster if there are holes underneath the pasteover?  If those posters were used more than once, who knows what gimmicks (e.g. lights, whirly gigs) were stuck through some of those posters.

Generally agree but they probably wanted a more menacing Frankie.

Whatever the reason, they could have done a better job of attaching the "attachment."   girly2.gif

And a big congrats to UNI collector Jim Gresham, (and author of the new poster book, "What Music They Make") who was the high bidder/winner of the Frankie 30x40 1951RR poster! clap clap clap

If the underbidder for this is on here, I'll gladly sell you my copy of this and include the Bill Murray for free!  Sheesh!

Why does this style always seems to sell for bigger bucks? Is it more rare?

Great movie + great poster + hot girl + DS + Mint condition (absolutely essential for a modern title) = $$$

The poster is not rare, but the demand is probably higher than for most modern titles.

Especially when there is one on eBay for roughly half that price.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOST-IN-TRANSLATION-ORIGINAL-MOVIE-POSTER-SCARLETT-JOHANSSON-AUTHENTIC-D-S-NM/261496440268?hash=item3ce26705cc:g:9s8AAOSwstxVNqj9

That's exactly what I thought. But then I remembered that emovieposter bidders have very deep pockets, which works in my favour because I consign regularly and sometimes wish my consignments would get locked in a bidding war. I guess everyone wishes that their Brooklyn quad ends at $343.

I'm just waiting for overzealous consignors to send their Lost in Translation posters so normal folks like me have a modicum of a chance at acquiring one.

Yep - fantastic result. More than triple the price of what Bruce got for one just a couple of months ago.
Very nearly joined the elite 1/3 of 1% club that is $1,000 sales at Emovie.

I guess stock market fears are over for some people.

And that ebay copy. which also looks to be near mint, is also open to a Best Offer, on top of the 50% emp result. So who knows what that seller might take? 425? 450?

I didnt think the copy result from last night was what those went for, but more an anomaly (and ltheir auction history shows this, too, to a degree, with condition also coming into play, of course).

The last one they sold, also described as 'very good to fine,' sold in 11/2014 for $213.00. And the last one to sell, prior to last night's copy, in July of 2015, & described as 'good to very good, (it had a 1" crease in the lower left corner), sold for $130.00

http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/LOST%2520IN%2520TRANSLATION/style/Johansson%2520style/tag/extra%253Auf/tag/extra%253Ads/archive.html

This is another example that shows when 2 people are in the right place at the right time and both REALLY want that one poster being auctioned, a good ol' bidding war ensues.

The seller of the ebay copy (ShutterIslandovmp) is also an APF member.  ;)

Seems like you are overlooking the one I mentioned that sold in November.

Just found it. That November 2017 copy was a single sided version. And last night's was a DS.

emp has sold 7 of the SS style, too:

Gotcha. My mistake.
Still incredibly impressive to think that even though it is so new it will be in Emovie's top half of 1% of sales for the year

The film has a very strong following (there's a Mondo style print for the film that has sold for >$2k a few times), but that's a great result for the consignor!

It would be interesting to see what the realized prices with the ultra expensive stuff at eMovie would be, if they had reserve prices, etc.  ;)

Well we saw a couple of those results in the past year, with both a Scarlet Empress one-sheet and an unbacked Casablanca one-sheet.
The Casablanca was eagerly scooped up for a bargain price by a dealer and I wouldn't be surprised if we found out the Empress was also.

The last heavy-hitter I can remember with a reserve at HA was when Todd went fishing with his Bride of Frankenstein teaser, and was unable to hook a buyer at his high ask.

Time-payment plans would probably help Bruce with some lower-high end stuff (is that a word?) in the $5-20,000 range, but I don't believe the few people who are willing/able to spend $100K on a poster make use of such plans.
