Quite agree Erik, not as nice as the Italian but on linen in very nice condition i gather it's a steal. That is why I stole it

This photo doesn't do it justice.  The lime green really pops on this poster.  Nice one.

The best Lawrence poster around, imo.  Kerfyser did an amazing job.  But $3,800 great?  A little nuts.

Dracula (Universal, R-1947). Three Sheet (41.25" X 79.5").

Bidders came out at the end...

$71,700 realized

Heritage is thrilled to present this fabulous three sheet and the only known copy for the 1947 reissue of the iconic Universal horror classic starring Bela Lugosi! Because of the popularity and the huge money making potential of the film released in 1931, Universal Studios reissued it in 1938 and again in 1947. All of the posters for this second re-release of the film have always been extremely scarce and most collectors have never seen this poster before now as its existence was only rumored for many years. Prior to restoration, the piece showed very small chips and tears along the folds/cross folds, a chip in the "L" of "Dracula", creasing, and missing paper in the borders. Careful restoration, including touchup to the folds and borders, has given this poster a like-new appearance, ready to be displayed and admired for its rareness and beauty. A jewel of a find, this three sheet is the opportunity of a lifetime for classic movie poster aficionados! Fine+ on Linen. Estimate: $40,000 - $80,000.

The $60,000 hammer price was well below the $80K (pre-BP) max estimate.

Obviously the 80K was a bit on the high side, but has anyone ever heard of ANY re-release poster (of any size) selling for $71K?

47 Dracula material continues to be the gold standard in re-release prices.

King Kong (RKO, 1933). French Double Grande (61.5" X 92") Style A.

$ 56K realized

Posters from King Kong, one of cinema's greatest triumphs, never disappoint, and this French Double Grande is worth waiting a lifetime just to see, let alone possess. No amount of hyperbole can ever fully describe King Kong's impact, and its revolutionary effect on how films have been made ever since. After premiering in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall in March 1932, it began doing all-time record box office business. Kong was then released internationally to another tremendous reception, resulting in fabulous posters being produced for its promotion, including this mesmerizing large format French piece. Artist P.H. deBuncey renders the mammoth "Eighth Wonder of the World" bellowing his displeasure as he sends a tree trunk asunder, with a few unlucky humans dangling precariously in his wake. The colors are as bright and fresh as the day it was printed, and airbrushing and touchup have corrected signs of wear: small tears within the image, upper left corner into the artwork, upper right border into "Kong", and right border, a chip in the lower left corner, and a small chip in the center. The rarity of this poster cannot be overemphasized, as there are two French Double Grande styles, neither of which Heritage has previously sold. A phenomenal find, and one that won't come around again anytime soon! Fine- on Linen. Estimate: $40,000 - $80,000.

You wouldn't call the "reddish cast" over the entire piece "damage", Rich?  From a chemistry perspective, I see what you're saying about how the acidity could be neutralized, but what makes you sure it has changed a fair amount since it was originally created?  It surely didn't have that much reddish coloring over it when it was created.

I think the $$ realized is outstanding, too.

And its a stunning looking piece, as well.

Let's just say this isn't an academic question… What do you think the best things would be to do to protect against the ammonia problems down the line?

they can buffer the acidity.
if there are other chemicals that cause aging, they can use the correct buffering agent for each one, presuming none of them cause other issues.
any process would need to be repeated every 5-10 years because all you're really doing when you buffer the acids is delay them and the process begins again.

if there are any specific ammonia buffering agents, I wouldn't know. This is actually the first time I have heard of anyone using a paper that was ammonia based for a piece of art, but it's an example of how in the field of illustration, the art is viewed as throw-away. Less so today than 30-40-50 years ago of course.

low price. What it probably means is that David Copperfield has the other copy of the poster and so he wasn't a bidder

Nice art from an exhibitor's book:

Speaking of UK....

Curse of the Werewolf (Universal International, 1961). British Quad (30" X 40").

$ 2,390 realized

Oliver Reed delivers an over the top performance as the werewolf in Hammer's only entry into the horrific lycan genre. Based on Guy Endore's The Werewolf of Paris, director Terence Fisher's terrifying tale doesn't shy away from mayhem and gore. This is the first British quad from this film offered by Heritage. Only light stains from masking tape along the borders and folds, and pinholes in the corners can be noted. Folded, Fine/Very Fine. Estimate: $700 - $1,400.

A large number of unused examples of these were found decades ago along with numerous "Georges" and "Carters". Every Houdini collector has one.

So, you are saying that this might be the lowest condition copy known?  :P

Definitely seems I have seen a few more of these over the years than I ever should have.
