A studio GWTW folded for $810?  Is that a new record?

ROTJ, not really a surprise.  This one keeps creeping up.

ROTJ 85R folded... ridiculous.  Worth $20.

Man, SW is on fire.

With Star Wars movies being made out as far as the eye can see you would think that these prices will at least hold for the time being - annoying for me as i want some of the older SW stuff but just can't bring myself to pay the current prices. Most of them are hardly rare!!!

Great results Dave - maybe you should do more of these auctions the demand seems to be there.

This forum seems obsessed with this poster.  I feel like I keep seeing it every month.  I don't get it. Not that great, imo.

That's why it caught my eye- the recent posts and interest.

For me, it's more I noticed how low this copy seemed to go for compared to the US one sheet. It does have some condition issues, yes, but it still was a nice score for that winning bidder.

Really liking the new Alien: Covenant poster, need to get hold of one!
Anybody in the know about ODEON here in the UK? There is a super ticket available for Alien Day where you get to see ALIEN, Prometheus and a special preview of Covenant, to top it off a limited edition poster.
Wondering if anyone knows what the poster might be? Something different like the Dark Knight Lenticular a few years back?

I agree with the poster.  My father was semi-obsessed with the novella this film was based on.  He had a well worn copy of the pulp magazine where it was first published.  I haven't seen that magazine in 50 years, but my recollection is that the cover art was very similar to the poster design.

Wow. Great set, and not too shabby price.

I wonder how many of those are in the wild.  Would door panels like these be one of the less popular formats for theaters to order from the NSS?

Heritage sold a set for $19,120 back in 2008:
https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/rock-and-roll/help-united-artists-1965-door-panel-set-of-4-20-x-60-total-4-item-/a/694-28330.s

Obviously, that was a different time, prior to the financial crisis, etc, etc.

But yes, door panel sets are generally quite rare. The HA description notes that even at 1960's prices a door panel set cost $7.50 compared to 15 cents for a one sheet. Of course rare doesn't always mean valuable as we all know. But these Help! door panels are both.

Very interesting, DT.

Kinda difficult to see the difference in condition with the set in the Heritage photos, but not too shabby of a result there, also.

That is certainly a big difference in cost from the NSS back in the day, among the different formats.

Thanks for the info.

Were these size door panels always offered (and are they found in pressbooks, too?) This sure seems like a rather unique size, but with this set like this, they work well. Or were they only done when specifically requested? (meaning for movies, in general)

the HELP door panels are in the pressbook, but only some films had such a size available and they do not always appear. Usually, they were only displayed at big first run houses and usually then during the initial showings

Wow, those Star Wars posters really killed it! I stumbled upon 12-15 Return otJ posters last year, but they are the Style A version. A nice poster for sure, but imagine if they had been GwtW or Revenge!  :o

I haven't done any real research, but based on my anecdotal observations the heyday of the US door panel format was from the early '60s to early '70s. I haven't seen many from before/after that time frame.

I used to have a couple Bonnie and Clyde door panels (1967), that I was fortunate to randomly stumble upon at a local store for $25. My hopes were high that maybe the shop owner had the other two stashed somewhere. But alas it was just the pair. I had them on display for a while but sold them when I started focusing on Mexican paper.

That must be hella rare:

Here are a number that emp has sold or is showing in their archive

http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/search/door%2520panel/tag/nation%253AU.S./tag/xtype%253Adoor%2520panel%2520poster/archive.html

The earliest they have, both from 1933, are for Footlight Parade and Gold Diggers of 1933 (bottom trimmed off)

Am digging these door panels from Freaks (1932), too, seen in action. I bet these would go for a HUGE penny today.

So was there some nationally (in the US) recognised edict that all cinema doors had to conform to the same dimensions?

Those panels some to fit real snug.

This was a very healthy price for a poster from a very obscure Buster Keaton picture, a two-reeler made when his career was petering out in the mid-1930s :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VERY-RARE-VINTAGE-ORIGINAL-1935-BUSTER-KEATON-Hayseed-Romance-LITHO-MOVIE-POSTER-/391766868635?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=ET2vs2OwRWs9lYtWSQeC2OFnE1w%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

A very nice image of Keaton. Neither EMP nor Heritage appear ever to have sold a single piece of paper of any type for this film.
