That was one big downer of as movie.  Supposed to be based on a true story, but much worse than what really happened.

And the topper at HA, also last Sunday, was this beautiful linen finish LC for THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEXbed1

It sold for $1440 (inc the BP).

The Sotheby's auction had some good results.  These two are pretty incredible.

Maybe these signatures are really difficult to get:

Might as well add this one here, too, right, B?

If you add Sotheby's 25% fee, Jedi sold for $21,000.  For a linenbacked poster?  Seriously?

Seems this was passed on... the 70s RR Swedish poster for TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT.

With an estimate of 1800-2600 GBP, I can see why. Both images are blah and poor Lauren Bacall was hit with the ugly stick on this version.

I was watching this (Revenge of the Jedi) auction and noted, in my opinion, some suspicious activity. A few days ago the bidding went up to £9000. The next day it had dropped to £6000 and some hours later went back up to £8500. I assume the original high bidder (an associate of the vendor?) withdrew his bid having established a high level of bidding.

The Swedish KONG also made its mark, with a high winning bid of 40,000 GBP  notworthy.gif

The Sothebys items all give a "FINAL BID" (winning) auction price.

Does this number include the added BP?

So what you’re saying is that the bidders are no smart enough to realize that this poster is not worth more than $2k on a good day and that someone bidding high and removing his bid is enticing enough to pay $21k?

Tragic.

I saved all the results of this Sothebys online sale within minutes of it ending because they are pulled soon after and it is not possible to then see them. I think this is a deliberate policy to keep many of their purchasers from readily doing subsequent research. Of course they could do the research beforehand if they could be bothered.

Sothebys did a nice haul in this auction, taking in 609,850 GBP.

And I found the BP answer, too...  this Online-only auction had NO added Buyers Premium.  thumbsup.gif

Yes, I think I read somewhere that the nil buyer's commission is for the short term only.

Maybe something to try, at least for a while. More bidders/buyers will get more bang for their buck, and know that what they bid is what they will ultimately pay, when that hammer goes down.

Yes to BP

Sotheby’s will no longer automatically waive fees for buyers in online-only auctions, as it seeks to profit from growth in this part of the market.

Most auction results were irrational and not worth discussing but two of the best didn't sell:

In previous online-only film poster sales Sotheby's pulled the results minutes after they had ended. I am wondering if they have changed their policy given the working link Mel has provided.

just too hilarious to see a 2001 eye poster pass at $13,000 and then three lots later a $50 Pink Panther poster sells for over $8000USD

Have any forum members consigned to Sotheby's?

What was the experience like?

Do we collectively believe some of the wild results or is it shill bidders or other shady behavior?

So who are the typical bidders and why are they irrationally bidding 10-20X typical auction results elsewhere? International, too rich to care, very casual/one-time buyers?

I just used link from Upcoming thread.
