Here's another one to add to this post. Received this from an Ebay seller who at first took no responsibility until I placed a hold on the payment. Blamed the post office. Why not take the responsibility for stupid packaging.

Jeff, most definitely. I will be returning the poster for a refund. Some guys are such amateurs that they just don't get it.

Every now and then something comes across for sale on Flea-Bay that is a unicorn or that rare and you can't wait see it in person and add it to your collection where it will take a prominent spot for one reason or another. As a big collector of whatever term you want to use, printers proof, untrimmed, etc. this met that criteria for me being one of just three I have seen in 20+ years of collecting SW material and well it is one that would just look that cool framed. So I bit the bullet rather than risk losing it and purchased using the BIN option for a fairly hefty sum, at least for me and sent the user a message twice asking him to "PLEASE" use this site for reference when packing, the new shipping page I had actually created and posted just days before the buy - How to ship a poster. I also asked him a few other questions which were never responded to which gave me a bad feeling from the start. Needless to say my day is ruined, I will let the images tell the rest of the story.

Just like my damage shipment, I noticed that a triangular packaging was used. Why do they insist in using this type of packaging?  devil 2

I wish I knew, I have even many times offered to pay them more than their original shipping price to do it my way. Rarely get an answer back or have them do it.

My guess would be that most don't want to go out of their way to get or look for sturdier packaging, whether they are told (or suggested to) do, anyhow. They wander to the post office, with rolled poster in hand, and grab one of those triangular jobs, as they are standing in line, waiting to quickly post it. And as your pic shows, too, Mike, the bubble wrap jammed over the ends is a quick afterthought, to give the appearance of "some care" (not) put into the process.  moron1

FYI, the newbie who sent my most recent "damage" poster, now posts in his listings that the poster will be shipped in a sturdy cylinder. Now why would he not do that in the first place?

I did return it and got a refund. Guess he learned his lesson.

The swift kick to the pants is often what it takes, that's for sure.

Good to hear you got a refund (tho still looking for the poster, most likely, now?)

I found out where he was purchasing the posters and bought 6 myself . All in excellent condition, unlike our newbie. He was just greedy.

I Had the same issue not too long ago.
Seller made it good, and resent another one, this time in a sturdy tube.

Mike,

Was that packaging SO damaged that the inner cardboard tube was also crunched like that? (meaning, was that brown tube inside the triangular USPS mailing tube?) If so.. that was some heavy handed manhandling going on there.  Doh.gif

Yes, the tube was inside that package.. Doesn't surprise me. I get it quite often. I also had another one last month too. Luckily, this seller fixed it, and resent another one at no cost (besides me sending this one back to him). He resent it in a PVC pipe and in another package. Surprisingly, its a larger dealer of posters too... eyeroll

actually Jeff.. Most people just don't know how to pack or more importantly - physics. energy+mass=that box that crashed into the triangle tube turning it into an accordion

or how interior packing like peanuts prevents such pressure from taking effect

I do use triangle tubes, but only in concert with an inner tube (I do this for rolled poster orders of 100$ or more)

they don't get it and they blame the post office, but it is definitely not the post office's fault

But we have also seen images and read the stories here of sellers who also just dont care. They throw a folded poster in a thin manila envelope, or send a rolled poster in 2 taped together (in the middle) smaller tubes.  Doh.gif ("Hmmm, the rolled poster I'm mailing is longer than my available tube... so let me tape 2 smaller ones, end to end. That will work...."). lol.

And so true, Rich. I'm sure there are huge numbers (of sellers/shippers) that dont even think about it, thinking that every package is handled with kid gloves, all the way to its final destination.
