So I was listening to smartLess on my jog the other day, and Mark Hamill was the guest. Here is a little something he said about the promotion of Star Wars that I didn't know. Maybe the great brains on this forum do, but I didn't.
Bateman: "You were a working actor. This was not a huge shock to you, to the system when this thing took off. I guess how can you be prepared for that kind of exposure, but..."
Hamill: "You can't. But the way I felt about it... i didn't see any ads for it on television, like I would watch SNL and usually they place a movie commercial there but I didn't see it, and on the day it opened, the driver picked me up to go dub the 35mm prints because it only opened in 16 theaters in 70mm, I said can you drive by Grauman Chinese, I want to see what it looks like up on the marquee. Here is the fun fact, there was such disagreement on how to promote it at Fox that it opened with no poster. They just stapled the lobby cards up. One faction was promoting it like an entertainment journey far beyond your imagination, far far beyond, the other one was pushing the comedic aspect, but they couldn't agree."
So when did the posters actually pop up? Anyone knows?
