I haven't got the original for comparison, but the aussie re-release daybill of The Outlaw looks much nicer to me than the original.

Yeah, it does.
That's a killer wall you got going there, Rick.

The first release was called KAIJU SOSHINGEKI (怪獣総進撃), which translates roughly as All Monsters Attack.
The rerelease was titled GOJIRA DENGEKI DAISAKUSEN (ゴジラ電撃大作戦) which means Godzilla Lightning Attack Strategy.
The Lightning Attack Strategy is a military term and it probably refers to the German "Blitzkrieg" strategy from WW2, so maybe Godzilla Blitzkrieg Attack would be a better translatation.

Armin

Thanks for that info, Armin.
Both posters are great. What a melee...

This thread's been taking a very long nap but time to wake up....

1933s:

1938rr:

HA posits:

[T]his amazing image, one that many poster collectors know but very few have ever seen in the original 1938 format in which it was printed, is sure to thrill! This stunning reissue one sheet is more rare than the original release one sheets for this classic thriller. In the early 1970's Portal Publications, a printing operation out of Sausalito, California, was actively reproducing classic movie poster images on a smaller format for comic shops and mail order trade. No doubt unable to get their hands on an original Kong poster, they reproduced this beautiful reissue and included a 1933 date on it. For years many collectors thought this was what the original release King Kong poster looked like and that is why the image is familiar to many older collectors. Flash forward to today and this is the only copy of this very rare poster we have ever seen or are aware of! The fabulous artwork surely rivals the best of the 1933 Kong campaign and in our opinion is one of the very best posters produced for this great film.

Disagree.
I think the Cravath art on the Empire State Building '33 style is much better than the '38 poster.
But no doubt the 38 is very cool.

The '38RR is basically a reworking (and flipping of the image) of the '33 poster art... so in that respect, I agree with Sean, since it was a reworked variation of an original theme.

My hat is also tipped to this '33 poster:

I had/have several RRs that are "in the same league" as the originals IMO although not superior (except Easy Rider):

The 50s Italian re-release for the Country Girl is hands down better than any paper for the film:

One of the handful of posters I won't part with.

Original releases probably win this but comparison is difficult bc the re-release is stellar but radically different:
