Some of you know I'm not big on displaying posters.  I have 3 poster frames at my house, and at this point in time, I rotate the posters once a year at best.  I have two 2001 posters up right now, and I had this Once Upon a Time in Hollywood poster up for a long time.  I think there is a picture of it from last year in this thread.  I never know what to put up.  So when I got my two Wages of Fear posters back from Mario, I thought it was a perfect occasion to do a swap before I file the posters.  I just did and I thought I'd share.

T

That poster is amazing and looks great on the wall! I love it.

I think I may put that movie on for my next movie night. I have not watched it in quite a few years but it certainly leaves an impression.

As for the level of activity on the forums, it's been a very long time since I posted myself.

I expect most people's energy for collecting naturally ebbs and flows in tune with the other passions, obligations, and stresses in their life. At least that's been the case for me. Though some die-hard collectors keep at it regardless :)

I see very few golden age Mexican movie posters out there for sale these days. And most of those that I do see, I either have already, or don't want. But once in a rare while I do still pick something up.

Most of my collecting these days has been travel posters and pictorial maps (but I still buy far less frequently than I used to). I should still post some of those travel posters here. I have even put some up on the wall. My wife prefers travel posters to movie posters from an interior decorating standpoint.

I suppose this is the Movie Poster section of the forum, but I'll share here anyway, since we don't have a "What's on your walls?" topic for travel/advertising posters.

Dunnottar Castle has a special connection for me since I lived in Scotland as a kid and always enjoyed visiting -- the ruined castle, steep cliffs, exploring the tidepools. It felt like something from a dream.

There is no way my wife would have agreed to a movie poster over the mantel.

An amazing image. You have to marvel at the human effort in putting a castle up in a location like that.

Very inspiring framing and walls here.

Great photo and poster there, DT. Sounds like an amazing place and cool that you had those times growing up near there.

Thanks for letting us know a little about those names long gone.  I was aware of Ted passing.  What about Ari?  I remember this guy from the beginning of forums.  Anyone else?

Last time I chatted with Mel it sounded like, as Paul said, he was collecting a little but not like he used to with the art-gallery like framed setup and everything. I don't know about Ari but I have a feeling he may have taken a step away from online stuffs when his kid was born, as that timeframe coincides with his last seen date here, and I vaguely recall that his Facebook appearances became much fewer then also. How about Adz aka bondposters?  I think he sold all of his collection and disappeared about the same time.

Rich seemed very active on a Facebook forum for a while, but I haven't checked in there much recently. I'm not sure if that was Mel's Facebook page that he passed off to Jedgerly? or someone else, but that page seems to be active and attract a lot of folks. Maybe a few members from here migrated there? It's difficult participating at several places, IMO, but good to see places including this one doing well.

It's crazy, I was going through the oldest posts on this thread, from CSM, Ari, Zorba, Brude (I think he passed away), CJ138, Charlie (didn't he start another forum bc he hated me?  Is that still going on?), Supraman079, Idioteque, Mel... the list goes on.  What happened to all these people?  Did they stop collecting?  Moved on?  Does anyone know?  It's like a blast from the past.

Still alive! lol I never hated anyone. Maybe our personalities are just not suited for each other. I mean I would think even you could admit there was some obnoxiousness flying from all sides back then. We started the new forum really because of the whole “it’s me and Holiday in a bar and all the rest of you are just background noise”or something like that and the whole banning episode. Not the most welcoming environment. Oh well I am sure we all older and wiser now

Plus that guy what was his name - the guy that didn’t have any posters of his own and then skipped out on someone’s posters? Eric or something…The troll…

I still collect regularly.

Matt and David pretty much moved on from VMPF… I just pay for it now so a bunch of Aussies can post quizzes and then ignore my posts. I’d shut it down but I think it’s keeping some folks happy. I also still get a lot of linen backing questions. I think one guy is now backing all of Morris Everett’s posters using my threads.

Mel came to visit me in Houston - he let me drive his BMW convertible. Doesn’t do much poster collecting that I can tell. Just hung on to a few.

I think Chris CSM is still around (had kids). I haven’t checked Ari’s forum in a long while but Ves probably knows how he is doing. I think he had moved a few years back.

There was a lot of conflict, for sure.  I don’t remember ever having a problem with you specifically, Charlie.  Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t.  I did not like the other guy you created your forum with, that is true.  I can’t remember his name now.  He was using “my” forum to sell his stuff, he was not transparent about pricing and was privately messaging members to raise his prices.  The kind of dealers I can’t stand.  I called his shit and he called me the poster police, which was fine by me.  I was happy to see him go.

Eric was the moderator, right?  A terrible choice on my part.  I chose him.  I think he ended up ripping people off and disappeared.  He also made a lot of people mad, including some lady he had a crush on, can’t recall her name either.  I did not handle this well.  Live and learn.

Mel was a little too intense for me.  He tried to befriend me, he wanted to come and visit, and I kind of pushed him away.  I didn’t really care about his car and all the ladies he was telling me about.

The political debates were also a big turn off for some.  The banter between Rich, Ted and myself was not necessary.  The name calling wasn’t either.

And ADZ hahahaha completely forgot that dude.  Omg, it brings back memories.  He was so annoying with his “I’m a nice guy, my friends love me, why won’t you?”  And his fathers Bond collection he was constantly bringing up.

But yeah, we were younger, the scene was new, it was a different time for sure.  A lot of things could have been handled differently, by me for sure and I guess everyone else.

AND I was a bit more hot headed back then and perhaps got wrapped up in moving on too quickly. Live and you learn.

I miss the old days too - it was a lot of fun…

cheers

This place was like the wild west way back when haha.  The "outing" auctions.  The political banter.  The Adz saga.  Top Gun humor.  Too much to mention in one post.  We're very different folks, as evidenced by our varying collections and everything, and most folks here could have somewhat civil discourse, and not label folks with opposing views as "the devil" or whatever.  For the most part it was fun.

That's unfortunate that your forum is not very active.  It's the case of many, that they eventually become ghost towns.  I was looking at your paper backing thread there a few days ago.  Hopefully you can get back to doing work like that.

Another wall from my humble loft space.  Since I moved in here, I've kept things more minimal than my last place, which had so many frames.  This area is a little crowded IMO, but I had to display one of my favorites in the stairs for a little while - Piranha Italian 4 foglio.

CJ popped his head in the other month to start a thread and say hello - http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,16987.0.html

I'd be curious to know what happend to Supraman079, he always came across as a nice chap. Same for Armin (Posteroid) - I learnt a lot from him and his website. I wonder if they're both still out there collecting?

Thanks.  Yeah it's one of my favorite artworks of the wild fish movies.  The colors and details are really good, especially good for being fairly old - 1979.   8)

Armin is still out there collecting, he and I chat every so often, but he's not selling any longer and has a busy family life with a new baby (now toddler), so doesn't really have time for the forum.

That's good to know, thanks crowzilla. I'm glad he is still collecting, hopefully he'll return one day to say hello.

Supraman079

The only person from this forum I have ever met in person.  I talked to him a few months ago.  He is out of the movie production biz these days, doing other things.  He's very busy with a couple of little girls.  Had a bit of a medical scare a bit ago, but it all came out alright, and he is doing well.  He hasn't been actively collecting for quite a while.  I'll tell him you hello for you guys!

Yes, I actually talked to the guy quite a lot way back then.  Is his first name Dave?  I have that in my head.  Either ways, yeah, tell him we said hi.

Kovacs01 and I have almost met a couple of times and we’ve surely been in the same convention room at the same time. Maybe this year??? Schan, I’ll be in Norman again this year, same time, and same con! Hope to see you.  Okie
