So does yours on the couch.  I guess posters are not their thing.

Thanks.

I have been meaning to share these for about a month or so but have just not gotten around to posting these for whatever reason (I guess focusing on buying, photographing, and curating more posters!). Anyway, I mapped out the arrangement several months ago but I was waiting on another shipment of Spotlight Display frames which finally arrived in January. I then made some small modifications to the back of the frames to allow the frames to be securely hung on the wall instead of fastened to the wall, as (1) I prefer to change the posters out while they are laying flat on a table rather than trying to fight gravity, and (2) this now allows me to swap in and out 27x40 and 27x41 frames in those particular spots on the walls (as the screws are spaced the same at the top of the frame). So without further ado, here is the BASEMENT STAIRWELL partially filled with original movie posters as well as some art prints and other memorabilia and movie art (most of these frames are Spotlight Display frames so I can swap things in and out to keep things lively).

And then into the BASMENT right off the stairs is the Chicago Corner:

And then the rest of the BASMENT space:

And finally, Tiki/Pirate Corner:

Looks good, struzaholic! I particularly like the wall with the different formats/sizes nicely arranged together. Plus all those beautiful Struzan one sheets in the basement! Very nice.

Is the basement your poster area in your house? I can spy some portfolios there...

Thanks Tob and T!

Yes, the basement is effectively dedicated as my poster space, as we decided against sinking a bunch of money into turning it into a bar and movie watching space as we are not sure how long we will be in Denver. My spouse forbade me from putting more than the three 1sh posters per wall in the main space which was kind of a bummer (could have easily fit two more posters per wall). Alas, I would gladly give up my basement in order to move back to California though, T!

Good eye Tob... I am definitely all in on the Portfolios. Up to FIVE portfolios now (not all full though) since that other picture was taken--and it has become a major pain to manage moving from one portfolio to another especially if the one I want to access is at the bottom of the stack...

Thus, we are currently building a working storage cabinet/desk that can store 10 portfolios - basically a flat file for Portfolios! Still a lot more to do but I am hoping to have the outer shell fully assembled and fastened tonight and then all that will be left is putting on the trim followed by lots of sanding, staining, finishing, and moving it to the basement in place of the desk. Here is sneak peak:

(Note: it is actually sitting upside down, those are just test shelves, and we haven't settled on any particular trim yet)

Yes, you've planned the spacing very well there to great effect.

Some of you know I'm not big on displaying posters.  I have 3 poster frames at my house, and at this point in time, I rotate the posters once a year at best.  I have two 2001 posters up right now, and I had this Once Upon a Time in Hollywood poster up for a long time.  I think there is a picture of it from last year in this thread.  I never know what to put up.  So when I got my two Wages of Fear posters back from Mario, I thought it was a perfect occasion to do a swap before I file the posters.  I just did and I thought I'd share.

A great choice. I was lucky enough to see the original at a revival movie theater around half a century ago, and it really SHOULD be seen on a big screen.

It blew me away. Thierry, did you see the remake Sorceror, and if so, what did you think?

Thierry, great poster for a great movie.  I also quite like the style B with artwork by Robert Leveque, which recently sold at Propstore.  I wish I had a large frame like yours that could easily open to swap French and Italian posters.  As it is, I have about 15 framed movie posters on my walls, some of which (like my French King Kong by Coudon) have been hanging for over 10 years.  It would be nice to rotate more items from my collection every once in a while.

Bruce, William Friedkin's Sorcerer is a very interesting, I'm curious to revisit it now that Criterion has announced that they will release it as one of their upcoming titles.  The score by Tangerine Dream is great.

I agree, Bruce, it is a quintessential French movie, albeit not so well known amongst fans of Marvel haha.  I’m glad you recognize its greatness.  I never saw it on the big screen and probably never will.  And yes, I saw Sorcerer years ago.  The movie that was supposed to be much bigger than Star Wars.  Not a bad flick, but not quite as intense as the original imo.

It's crazy, I was going through the oldest posts on this thread, from CSM, Ari, Zorba, Brude (I think he passed away), CJ138, Charlie (didn't he start another forum bc he hated me?  Is that still going on?), Supraman079, Idioteque, Mel... the list goes on.  What happened to all these people?  Did they stop collecting?  Moved on?  Does anyone know?  It's like a blast from the past.

It amazes me too! And most of them not only never post, and but it seems like almost all of them quit buying (unless they now solely buy from the auctions with buyers premiums). So strange!

Antoine, I saw Sorcerer in the theater on opening night (at that time I thought Friedkin could do no wrong, having loved The French Connection, The Exorcist, and The Boys in the Band) and I liked it, but I didn't love it, and I felt he missed something the original had.

It wasn't until years later that I saw The Night They Raided Minsky's, which was really stinky, so it was good I missed it the first time around. Friedkin really imploded after Sorceror. He did even make a fairly good movie, and he made a lot of real losers.

I wonder what happened to him? I feel sorry for whatever it was.

I am not a big fan of remakes of classics. What are they trying to prove? Imagine a remake of Casablanca (or Snow White thumbsup.gif)!

That's interesting, Bruce, I didn't think of asking you.  So most of these early people have abandoned your auctions too?  Wasn't it you who said that most collectors are occasional collectors?  They collect for a little while and then move on to something else?  Only a few hardcore folks remain?

Some of us are still here, just haven't had much to say.

I do still buy but have cut way back while working on starting a new business combined with some serious health issues. That sucks up a lot of money.

My purchases are now limited mostly to those few posters that almost never make it to an auction house and are high on my permanent collection want list. I do have to admit some of Bruce's auctions have been testing this plan to its limits and there are a couple in the April major that I may have a go at.

Total last year was maybe six posters, none that haven't been posted often before with maybe the exception of the Star Wars Seito B0 which Brie owns of only a few others I know of. That will be making it onto a wall in the next few months and I will post it then for sure.

For fun, here again by no ones demand, coming to wall near me soon!

Congrats!

To me, in that specific size and with the Japanese lettering, one of the best Star Wars posters out there, top 5.  A must for serious Star Wars collectors.  I don’t think it’s worth that much either.  I don’t follow prices, so I may be wrong here.

You should post it in the Star Wars thread and then on here once you frame it.

I’ve also been buying Star Wars posters here and there, trying to complete my collection.  Still a few pieces I want to get, but I recently bought a Bulgarian Empire poster from Bruce.  It’s on my website but I’ll probably get it in 6 months.  One piece at a time.

Great poster!

Seems logical.  I feel like I'm in a similar situation as other folks, who don't have as many new acquisitions to share as time goes on, get involved in other stuff, etc.  If I still had storage space with my flat file cabinet and all I'd probably be going stronger, but I still acquire a few posters per year.

Looking through this thread is certainly a blast from the past.  A lot of great exhibits, including the very high-end stuff like T's changing exhibits, and too many others to mention briefly.

Personally, I rarely used the internet before I joined here in 2010.  Also, I didn't even have a digital camera until 2012 when I went on a long road trip, then I started sharing some photos here.  In 2015 I went back to 35mm film for most snapshots  :P

Anyway, good to see many of the folks still doing well with acquisitions and all here.

Very cool concept and work on the portfolios and storage piece there, Struzaholic.  sm1

Congratulations on that win, Undead!  sm1

A quick snapshot of my humble work space.

Challenging space, lighting, etc. for photography.  Someday I'll try my ultra-wide angle lens on my underwater camera for a few photos here of my other walls.

I still pop in regular, but don't post much now. I retired 3 years ago, so save funds for stuff I only need. Been collecting now since 1969-70, and still not stopped.  I think Charlie fell out with Holiday, Charlie still collects and is still at the other forum he set up, but it's very quiet there. Yes, Brude, Ted passed away last year.  Mel is still picking up bits, he seems very.... in and out..  CSM, Chris still collects, but don't hear a lot from him. Think he's on Facetube also. So several still about and picking stuff up.

I actually sold some of my doubles last year to try and make some room, but gave up as I prefer buying... ;-)

In keeping with the thread, here's what I have up at the moment..

We need your wisdom more often, Paul.  You're certainly one of the most seasoned collector, if not the most seasoned.

To be honest, I have no idea what those Carry On movies are.  I know UK people are obsessed with them, but I have never seen one.

Thanks for letting us know a little about those names long gone.  I was aware of Ted passing.  What about Ari?  I remember this guy from the beginning of forums.  Anyone else?

I didn't know that other forum was still active.  All forums are slow now.  I think it makes no sense to have more than one forum these days, but good for them.
