New book by Hennebelle Editions about Laurent Durieux - ÉCRANS DE PAPIER

Two limited edition versions. Not cheap, but early reviews from FB group with pics look promising.
I sprung for the offset edition.

It looks a really high quality book. I was really tempted, but I have a lot of his prints, so I felt a bit guilty when I was hovering over the buy button and decided to pass. I hope you enjoy it when it arrives, jpicken!

Durieux is my favourite print artist. I sold the majority of my art prints in 2022 and retained just 15 to 20 of the best ones, only one of which - Jaws -  is a Durieux. So having this book is a great way of enjoying the many wonderful images he has created.

I like Durieux the artist, heck I own 95 of his prints, but I don't know if I like Durieux the man.  He seems a little vain, constantly publishing books of his work even though most of his prints are not worth more than $100.  He rubs me the wrong way, a little too much self promotion.  But maybe I see it wrong.

I suppose he achieved his success quite late in his career, so is making hay while the sun shines? A few years back, I had a few beers with him and his brother Jack when they came to Thought Bubble in the UK and they both came across as nice chaps - very unassuming and happy to spend time with our little gaggle of print collectors during the evening in a bar. I remember he spent hours at the convention on Sat and Sunday doing concept sketches for scores of folk - he was very generous with his time. It was really interesting to see him come up with these concepts on the spot and to make these fun sketches, he’s a talented guy. He did a little ink sketch of Jaws for me which I love. So I have respect for him, but do understand your point of view as you’re not alone, I think he rubs a few of the US collectors the wrong way too sometimes (although I always thought that was perhaps because his English isn’t great and he can come across a bit brash with his postings due to translation mishaps).
