Removing signatures
« on: September 13, 2024, 03:32:20 PM »
Probably a stupid question.

There were a lot of posters I was interested in at this last Propstore auction but they were unfortunately signed and I don't care for signed posters.  Which made me wonder if there was a way for a restorer to remove signatures WITHOUT linenbacking a piece.  Can acetone be used or would it destroy the paper?

Same. A lot of cool posters, but I didn’t bid because of the signatures. I did win a couple without though.
But would also like to know this answer.

From what little research I've done, it seems to depend on the type of pen/marker used and the type of paper that's been signed.

I purchased a bus shelter recently with a huge ugly signature that I'm going to try and remove. It's signed in marker and the bus shelter is the thicker vinyl type of material. I don't have high hopes but I paid a fraction of what I've seen them go for in the past so worth a try.

If I have success I'll report back.
