Hi everybody, I was wondering if I could get some help from you all. This is a recent acquisition I got back from Lumiere Poster Restoration (Mario is a genius). I have no idea what country it comes from. Mario had not seen one before nor had several prominent collectors he asked. One said maybe it was from Morocco? Not sure about that. I could not find anything on the web plus neither emovieposter or Heritage have ever sold one. This poster was given to me by the daughter of actor Mike Connors, it sat folded in his closet for many many years. The size of the poster is 42" x 28". The image of Grant and Kelly is printed directly on the poster and the rest of the poster is silk screened on top of that. It seems this was a common printing approach with French posters at the time? Other French posters of films from Paramount at that time had "C'EST UN FILM PARAMOUNT" printed in a cursive font, different from this one. There is no artist signature anywhere to be found and nothing is on the back. The later more common French poster of this film has a pic of the Academy Award on it. My best guess is maybe this is possibly an early design that was eventually rejected and replaced with the more common image of the silhouette of Grant running around on the rooftop? Such a mystery for such a stunning poster. Thanks in advance for your help! -Mike

You may be right, it must be a poster printed in French colonies (presumably Morocco); and design was presumably rejected (the French kiss). It is possible it is a one-off. No idea about the size

I just came back from a 5 week vacation in South of France, Spain and Portugal with the fam, and even though it was far from relaxing (three young kids made sure of that), I completely stayed away from posters and I loved it. I can't remember a longer stretch without buying something.

So nothing for me.

I love the Dangerous Half Sheet! Nice one! I love the movie Marked Woman, and I think the poster is pretty “unique”. Such classics!

I bought the Stagecoach half sheet. I love the film, and could never afford the one sheet. Plus the half sheet had Wayne on it! I’m excited about it.

This is gonna be a great chance for your auctions to shine. Heritage prices to me seemed to be very depressed across all areas (the one item I bought was at a better than 50% discount to prior sale), while you seem to have a really nice assortment of items and just as important a lot of unrestored pieces. I know I've put several on my watch list.

Yes Bruce, I timed it perfectly just for you. I haven’t checked your stuff yet, but I did Heritage and I was totally fine missing it (so much linen!!!). It sounds like your auction might be better.

Prices seems pretty low on most things. Some of the main bigger items didn’t even sell. 50 Foot Woman, Vertigo, Casablanca, Dark Victory… all unsold in the auction. I got the Stagecoach half sheet for almost half of what it last sold for 7 years ago. Will be interesting to see if prices turn around again at some point!

The Kid three sheet sold in 2022 for over $220k. It went for under $70k yesterday.

Things change, people die, new generations do not care about older movies the way some of us used to. I see it with fine art all the time. Mid range art from the late XiX century is now obsolete. People want modern, half XX stuff.

I see that Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman is listed at $11,250??? Was that the starting price at auction? Pure greed. No wonder it didn't sell. Why don't they let the market speak out? Vertigo sold for $6,250. I think it's a lot. I bought mine for $4k folded mint a few years ago.

Also the linen. There used to be way more folded stuff a few years ago when I was still buying a lot from HA. I would spend at least $10k at every sig auction. The past 4, I barely bought anything because I won't touch linen. I know it doesn't make a difference to most of you, but I'm sure it removes a few collectors from the equation.

I agree with you Thierry that there was too much linen for me in Heritage's latest auction, so I didn't participate either.

Great pick up, Riley!! Stagecoach is an incredible film (too bad that one sheet is so frickin expensive, what a poster that is!).

I want Dark Victory someday, but this example has terrible foxing issues that I think scared everyone away...It looks pretty horrible and I imagine will only get worse.

Never clicked and read the description on Dark Victory. That foxing is bad. Such a bummer! An otherwise iconic top tier poster.

I already put them on my site but I figured they would work following the Olympics opening in Paris.

John Huston's Moulin Rouge (1952) and the Italian first release of The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Ballester (1946).

Congratulations on those, T. I don't know much about them but I did a quick search for the Hunchback and didn't see any other copies. Is it, or are they both, super ultra-rare?

Yes, both of them are extremely rare. I hate using "rare" because it's so overused, but in this case it's true.

There is a cheap re-release 50s French one panel of Moulin Rouge with the same dancer but different background drawings. This original double panel (63x92in) is unheard of. And in mint folded condition I may add!!!! Check the little scenes on the left. No one would have this on a poster nowadays.

And the Ballester... well, it's Ballester, the single greatest poster artist ever imo. Had to get it. Also folded and mint.

Getting this posted just under the wire.
I've been looking for an unrestored title card on the Wolf Man for quite some time as they almost never turn up for sale (Bruce hasn't sold any title cards on this film in 30 years, and it's been a decade since Heritage sold an unrestored one).

So when the opportunity presented itself for this (and some other early Uni horror cards) I flew out to inspect them and seal the deal in person. I'm sure I overpaid, but I felt it was worth it to cross it off the list.
