Poster size reference
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:09:04 PM »
Somebody on APF asked me to put together a relative size comparison poster, so here's my draft for US posters.  One of these days I'll expand it to non-US posters.  Let me know if I've messed something up:

Well done  clap  The only thing I would suggest is to get rid of the "" as we all know you're talking about inches

Yes well done looks nice.

I like the " inches. It makes it clear. Inches are a strange measurement to people in Oz (and Europe I suspect), we dont use it. We moved on to metric near on a half century ago. Why cant USA do the same?... USA crashed one of their space probs recently into a planet getting confused between metric and empirial measurements.

But I do sort of like inches as a measurement... easier than saying 2.025m (81")

I thought the one sheet 41" -> 40" size changeover was more around 1985 than 1990?

Well, when talking about US paper it's always going to be in inches, n'est-ce pas?  I just find it redundant

Very nice Mel, I love it. It's god to have an idea how big posters are when buying. Right now the only size I really deal with are the one sheets. I'd like to get some of the old lobby cards someday though (especially the Casablanca one).

Measuring is a large part of my job, and I 90% of the time use Feet and Inches. I always think it's best to use the " or mm, as everyone knows what's been talked about. The lack of using them may have caused this space probe incident.

I live in England and are not happy about this metric thing being pushed upon us. I like lbs, not kgs, and inches, not centimetres.

Next thing we'll be using the Euro not good old pounds and pence. I hope the U.S. stays Imperial for ever ( though what's with this 7 pints in a Gallon lark!!! ).

Sick with it Mel, it's jollyfine.

I made an embarrassing typo here and I want to correct it to the above please, if possible. I noticed we are unable to edit/modify our posts after so much time (only noticed my typo the second time I opened this thread when it was too late to change) and I found I can't report my own post to the moderators to have it changed (I thought that was the protocol for editing our posts). Thanks

~ Juli

Nice work Mel.

I don't think there is an official date for the change over to 40" but it definitely started in the 80s.

There are two sizes that you missed (although uncommon) - midget and jumbo window cards

Also door panels, half subways, and if want to get really obscure, the cardstock NYC small subways with the notched corners.

What else are we missing?

I'm just showing the sizes most commonly sought by collectors.  B3s and B4s are pretty obscure - I don't Holiday has any of either of those sizes.
