Been watching a good number of flickers on TCM recently, with my Mom, whom I'm still seeing, back in the midwest.

Today was AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS with David Niven and a literal whose who from film and music, making cameos thru the film, the beautifully shot, Technicolor classic, LASSIE COMES HOME with Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor (had never seen it before now), and David Lean's epic -  A PASSAGE TO INDIA from 1984.

All wonderful viewing, beautiful cinematography, music, casting and overall production values, with film picked during their "31 Days of Oscar", prior to the Academy Awards.

Hi Jeff, A Passage to India was so great to see on the big screen when it came out.  What a great cast, eh?  I hadn't thought about Judy Davis in awhile and then we watched The Dressmaker on one of the streaming services about a year ago and it was good to see her again!  Stay warm way up there far from CA!  Okie

Captain Marvel (2019): More than just girl power goodness as the movie elevated universal, strong super hero goodness.  Don't get me wrong, my daughters really liked the girl power, Brie Larson, this is her show extravaganza!  Mom, Dad, and 17 year old son thought the movie kicked butt, too.  Gwen Stefani "Just a Girl" rocked a great fight scene.  See it in the theatre!   Okie

Not what I saw okie.

Captain Marvel is a snooze fest. Granted it had a couple of good moments but the whole of the film is shit.

Cant wait for Avengers 4 even more now to  get the taste of that garbage out of my mouth.

If you want a girl power movie go and pick up Wonder Woman on blu ray or 4k . That is a very good to great movie with a female lead.
Amazing all the morons in the media who forgot about it.  I think from now Im going with media =moron.

CM is 5/10...WW was 8/10.

Last night and Friday night, I took in STAR TREK II, WRATH OF KHAN (1982), and STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK (1984).

Both, imho, were really good sequels to ST I

The cast, of course, is awesome, as were the sets, scores, both by James Horner, costumes and SFX.

And you gotta love Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon.

thumbsup.gif to both!

I like them both but I say 2 is great and 3 is an okay middle movie to what is the true Star Trek trilogy of II III and IV.

Star Trek 1 the motion picture is horrible really and should be scrubbed from your memory.

I do have the posters for all cause they are Peaks  8)

ST I is slow and the pacing could have been much better, but to see the original cast brought back together for the first time, all those years later, was for me, a lot of fun. I know a lot of people didnt like it, but I did, primarily for the fact that the gang was back together, once again.

I don't know, Zorba.  We had a packed, small town movie theatre, lots of families with kids, and clapping and laughing.  Are you getting too jaded in the big city, my friend?!  Okie

Great Star Trek films, Jeff!  ST 2 WOK is my favorite.  Christopher Lloyd is always great and I liked Robin Curtis, too.  The first Star Trek movie took some getting used to for me: now I really like it in its uniqueness.  Khaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!   Okie

Very possible but as a comic book geek the movie is so not true to its source...but yes I am EXTREMELY jaded.

This guy as a fellow comic book geek  feels my pain...It is very painful for us that care about the source material....

I hear you, Zorba.  I grew up with the late 1960s Captain Mar-Vell by Gene Colan and into the Jim Starlin years with Nitro etc.  The new movie seemed to work for me, though.  I liked the homage to the 1960s Kree battle uniforms in the movie. I think the new movie paid it's respects enough to the old while creating a new adventure.  We'd be watching a lot of 1960s period hero pieces, if we held to tightly to the line, eh?  Okie

I decided to watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture (#1) last night... and maybe with more time going by and the nostalgia, I actually enjoyed it. Some trimming could have been done on the LOONNNG drawn out shots of VGER and its cloud. Watching Sulu's open mouth reaction over and over, as the cam cut back to him, got a little tedious, after awhile, and got to be amusing, too. Persis Khambatta was good, too, and nice to look at, as well.  ;)

But overall, I liked the story, and considering it was shot in 1980, the SFX, sets, wardrobe, and of course the awesome Jerry Goldsmith score, were all top notch, imho.

As a side note... I had no idea until just now that Khambatta died of a massive heart attack, back in 1998, at age 49, let alone that she had coronary bypass surgery in 1983, at the age of 35.  :o :'(

Hi M154cath!  Thanks for the recommendation on Hunt for the Wilderpeople!  It was fantastic.  "What's behind that door?"  "Jesus?"  "You're Sarah Connor."  Man, the movie was funny and real.  I highly recommend it, too.  Written and directed by Taika Waititi.  Fantastic!  Okie

Agree to disagree.

I actually have the poster hanging  right now Peak and Trek fan that I am  8)........I have seen it many times and as a fan I watch pretty much every time I see it and I cringe.

Star Trek II thru IV are classics I and the others are the black sheep of the family...Though again I still watch  ;)

Casino Royale 2005 for the 20th time.

Easily the best Bond film in my eyes.

A great stand alone movie.

Watch it! Again!

P.S.

sadly I dont really like the other three Daniel Craig films that followed much at all as they go back to the Bond formula.

Well Skyfall is okay...kinda..

In Sicily at the moment for a 3 month break and there is only one cinema in the town I am living and only show films dubbed in Italian which is a pain as won't be watching any films in the cinema till I get back to the UK in July. However, before I left I did watch this film twice in the cinema I work at in my local town. It's a great original concept of a film. see if if you get chance guys.
