And I love the full bleed style of it, too.

Nice find, Chris.  thumbsup.gif

Johnny Guitar does have striking art.  Here is the quad from my "to be restored" drawer:

The quad is so niiiicccce! I don't think I've ever seen it before.

"The King of Free Time" perused ALL the pre-1940 US MPs on eBay and liked these:

I especially like the Pirates of the Skies.  But then I'm a sucker for classic aircraft stuff.

Great image of Mitchum on that poster, ladeda. The style reminds me of an engraving.  thumbsup.gif

This Italian 2F for Frankenstein. With no credits, aside from Karloff's name, is this a first release? Or maybe from the early late'30 / early '40s?

imdb shows that the movie was shown at the Venice Film Festival in August, 1932, but that it didnt open in Italy until Dec. 2, 1935.

But what color and vibrancy, along with the flaming windmill! One kick ass poster, for sure!

That poster was offered for sale alongside the Swedish Frankenstein I bought. The Italian 2F was heavily restored with lots of airbrushing. It was listed as an early 40s re-release and had an opening bid of $40,000 IIRC. It didn’t receive any bids so it either went back to the consignor (Frank Darabont) or was possibly sold privately after the auction.

You know it Michael. And I'd love to know how much and what areas were retouched/restored, too.

Another printing of the Italian Frankenstein 2F. Looking at Karloff's face on this copy, this copy looks un-retouched and the face is much better on this one, imho. The UNI logo is on the lower right, along with a different distributor logo in the upper left corner.

Karloff's text is also a different color, too. as well as the printer. Looks to be A.P.E. Roma on this copy.  Spying.gif

On this day in 1927, Metropolis was released in the US. Since we’re all familiar with the iconic, skinny poster, I’ve decided to share the image from the French release that same year by Boris Bilinsky.

I only WISH I owned it, okie. I was just toying with you.

But I did watch the auction with real interest. I'm normally not one to like or want signatures on posters, but in this case, I would have made an exception, without thinking about it twice.  bed1
