Im not a huge fan of the "floating head" designs (this or The Wolf Man poster w/Chaney, Jr), but it is for one of the Uni Classics... so kudos to the movie it's for, Sean.  thumbsup.gif

I try to avoid posters with text on the art. This is my worst poster nightmare

For the most part I agree Jeff, though for Wolf Man it is the only style one-sheet there is, so not much choice if that's the size you want.
On Dracula though, this is the poster where the artwork actually looks like Lugosi, as opposed to the cartoony image of the style F.
(Yes, the photo image of the style B is of course him, but this art is great - I've seen Fishler's copy in person and it's just beautiful.)

Do you know the story of where/when this copy surfaced? Sounds like a recent find...

I agree with you, Sean, that the image is very spot on with Lugosi's likeness and it's beautiful in that regard. And the colors are fantastic, seeming to almost hop off the paper.

I never got the "cartoony," style F version, either. There is very little menace to it, but the colors also do pop.

Both this and the Phantom one-sheet in the current auction are new to market pieces, having been in the seller's family since the 50s.
Not a collector, but someone in the film industry acquired them both back then as they loved the art and the son is selling now.

Personally, I think the image stinks but it's certainly an incredible piece.

US Insert for The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920)  bed1

That's a pretty amazing poster, and would be an incredible find.
But my first thought when I see it is that it's not real.

Philips was the name of the UK releasing company for Caligari (all the US material simply says Distributed by Goldwyn) and an insert is not a standard size they used back then.

The show dates printed on the bottom of the poster Fri-Sat March 19-21 (which would be Fri-Sun, not Fri-Sat) would be 1920 show dates, but the film debuted in Germany the last week of February 1920 and didn't roll out to other countries until 1921.

Can't find any info on a Senator Theater in the UK (and wouldn't that be a "theatre" anyways), though I do find one in Baltimore starting in 1939.

Lastly the idea that a theater was air-conditioned in 1920 would be huge, the Rivoli in Times Square usually gets credit for being the first theater to have air-conditioning and that was in 1925.

I see what you mean, Sean.

And another red flag i just noticed nearer the bottom:

Goldwyn DISTRUBTION Company.  Doh.gif

Oh well..it caught my eye for a second or 2.

Ive always found many of these Spook Show posters to be a lot of fun and interesting, with their tag lines and Z films that were often part of the lineup.

I'm REALLY liking this hand painted poster for He Who Gets Slapped (1924), starring Lon Chaney Sr.  bed1

This poster, measuring just under 27x40 inches, was done by artist Alvin Wolfson in 1924.

What a beautiful creation.  clap clap

And is available for $150K, from Todd Feiertag.

Not sure whether this one has been posted before, but apparently, it was unsold at Heritage in March of 2016.
Wow, what a poster.

German 3 sheet for I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1933), with the incomparable Paul Muni.  thumbsup.gif

What a cool looking poster, with art by Lapiner.

I always liked this Dutch poster for Chaney's Phantom of the Opera (1925), using the image of the illuminated face of the "rat catcher" seen in the cellars when he's encountered by Raoul and Ledoux.  clap clap  bed1

The Walking Dead (1936); a silkscreen style poster. This would shine on any wall today.
