Isn't this thread "Fantastic Film Posters" and not "shit my son draws when he's on acid"?

If you don't think the above poster is FANTASTIC, you need your head examined.
But, then again, we ALL know its empty.

That is indeed a fantastic poster and I would take it over every single Mondo poster in the universe!

It is definitely NOT studio issue. It likely was printed by "Leader Press" (if not by them, then by one of the similar companies; see below).

In the 1930s, a constant headache for theaters was being sure of having movie posters for their current releases. Often, the posters would travel with the actual film prints, and sometimes the theater before them might have forgotten to include the poster, it might have been defaced or torn, etc. If a theater didn't have posters, it was very frustrating!

Several companies began in the 1930s (Leader Press, the "other company", Woolever Press, etc) that made posters of their own for new releases, and they would provide a back up for theaters in case they didn't get a studio issued poster.

Often the posters from these companies (with the exception of the "other company") were silk-screen posters, but they were often quite attractive, and virtually always had a completely different design from the regular studio issued poster.

It is an absolute fact that posters from these companies are far more rare than the regular studio issued posters. It is also a certainty that these posters were issued when the movies were first released. In fact, they were created PRIOR to the movie's release, so that they could serve as teaser or advance posters (theaters rarely got the studio issued posters before receiving the actual movie).

We have located an extremely rare original advertisement for Leader Press posters which clearly states that they were available to theaters a full two weeks prior to each movie's release.

Fascinating.

Sharkwater (2006)

Revolution (2012).  The follow-up to Sharkwater.

The poster is based on the baobab tree.

The producer, Rob Stewart, was on a diving trip in the Florida Keys a few days ago, filming his latest movie, Sharkwater Extinction .  On his last dive of the day, he allegedly surfaced, gave the OK sign, then vanished.  A rescue team found his body earlier today.  He will be missed.

What a tragic end to that brief story, Brandon. Especially if he gave the OK sign before disappearing below the surface. I wonder what could have happened?

On a more upbeat note: Are the 2 posters that you posted above part of your collection, too? If so, congrats on these additions.  thumbup

They're great posters.  I do not have copies in my humble collection, but would probably bid on them if I saw them. On the Revolution poster, the baobab tree is remarkable, in itself, and the overall design is pretty rad.

Rob and his dive buddy were diving pretty deep, 225 feet, and it was their third dive. They were also using rebreathers, which combined with multiple dives that deep, makes the diving even more complicated.  Rob's buddy allegedly passed out at the surface and the boat was picking him up when they saw Rob surface, but did not get to him in time. It's possible that he also passed out. Very unfortunate turn of events.

Brandon, here's hoping you snag them both at some point, then, and thanks for the few more known details (at this point) of the diving tragedy.

Indeed.

His work helped to enact worldwide bans on shark finning, and brought to light other environmental concerns.  It is remarkable how some films can make a difference in truly noble and important causes.

This US OS for Revolt of the Zombies (1936) was offered by HA this past Saturday. I think the image plus the intense color combo is a real eye grabber. I really dig this poster.   cool1

Nice one.  Apparently the film isn't as popular compared to Victor and Edward Halperins' previous films: White Zombie (1932) and Supernatural (1933).

In any case, it is stunning, indeed.

I just posted about these in the Post Auction thread, but Im putting them here, too, because as I look at them more closely, they are really pretty spectacular, in both their artwork and design. The French, 1P set is from the 1950s:  thumbsup.gif

Speaking of Laura (1944), I think this French poster also knocks it out of the park! I LOVE the intense, vivid colors, too. Art is by Constantin Belinsky  bed1

Yes, that's the medium size (24x32in).  I'm no fan of Belinsky, one of the rare French artists from that era that I don't like, but I think I'd go for that Laura.  I have no idea what happened to Laura in France and why its paper is so elusive (aka impossible to find).  Many 1946 (post war year of release) posters can be found, but not this one.

Bordertown (1935)

Just a killer and stunning poster, imho, and Bette was quite the poser on this OS, too.  bed1 notworthy.gif
