Thanks. No prob, understood.

The EB crowd is a little much for me.  Fan boys scare me.

Got these 2 this morning.  I don't know yet if I like them, but I think so.  Will have to see them in person.

So I haven't bough anything from Mondo in quite some time, this year has been very, very poor, imo.  Does anyone else feel the same?

Outside of the Durieux and Disney show, I agree.

My favourites are below. A lot this year wasn't too my taste either, but I really love the ones below. If they release 5 - 10 ones I like each year, I'll be happy.

What I do find frustrating is that the online fans have been left out in the cold this year. Lots of leftovers. Every print below was a gallery or event exclusive. If I didn't have a pal that goes to a lot of these shows and helps me out, I'd have bought hardly anything this year. I've only order 2 posters directly from the website this year. I think they have got the balance wrong.

These are the few that I got this year, a third of what I got last year.  Snow White, Jurassic Park, Nosferatu and Evil Dead 2 are mistakes.  Not good.

My fav is by far Guardians of the Galaxy.  Really nice.

And I'm done with Ansin.  Really don't like his style anymore.  Sick of those lines.

I like the Birds poster, but can't stop looking at the fact that if Tippi's head is in the sun (as it should be to theatrically highlght her), then there will be a shadow on the boardwalk to the left of that of the bird's.

I know, just roll with it Simes...

I wouldn't look at it like they have to meet a quota of what you/anyone thinks is good or acceptable. They literally do a release a week, if not more, plus gallery shows and conventions.
Also, the artist stable has changed drastically. Stout isn't really into posters any more, Olly is making video games now, and Ansin has adopted his new 'gradient' style instead of his cleaner line work (Dracula was the last of his 'older' and probably more preferred style). All of this combines into more art that is mostly appreciated in smaller niches instead of larger audiences, by newer and not really known artists.

On the positive front, Durieux as evolved into easily the best artist Mondo has, and thankfully for him he is working with other companies and galleries to get his work out there. He is clearly in his own league.

Funny about taste, looking at these for the first time probably.
I really dont like the Guardians of the galaxy at all (I guess whatever his name is always does this style) not my taste.
Evil Dead 2 I quite like, shame about the movie.
Nosferatu, apart from Nosferatus face (strange, not good strange) I like.
But Snow white would be pick of the bunch for me.

That's just the way it goes.  Most of the stuff I see means absolutely nothing to me, and I suspect my stuff means nothing to most people.  Taste is so personal.

Curiosity begs me ask this... Do those who buy the Mondo posters sit and wait for the release time, then have some secret method to getting these before they sell out within minutes (well, the good ones anyway) or do you pay the eBay cost and get them later?

Yep, thank goodness most don't share my taste or I'd be paying more.

They announce drops a day or so beforehand via email and Twitter. On the drop day, you have to be quick..usually constantly refresh your browser on their poster page over and over between 11-1 EST.
Make sure you are logged in their site beforehand. And then pray.

Just trying to convey the whole 'good luck with that' mentality.

It's not luck, it's internet connection and self made bidding programs.

It really isn't. I have a 10 mbps connection and I get stuff with more success than other guys I know with 100 mbps/FIOS connections.

Also, Mondo has changed the infrastructure of their site to boot automated scripts and bots (as well as folks pressing F5 for hours) every several minutes. I know people who used auto cart bots who say it doesn't even work any more.

I never understood the whole "be prepared for the drop, because it's instantly sold out" mentality.  Collectors are competing against flippers who are banking pretty serious $, using methods like this.
