In memory of a great collection of a great collector
« on: November 29, 2010, 09:42:56 PM »
NS4 members will remember Dennis aka Drak, but maybe some newer collectors wont.
Anyways Dennis died a couple of years back, but while he was famous for his no holds barred style of posts (and loved for them), he also had one of the best collections in the world, and he LOVED them.

heres a few images he emailed me of his home and some of his collection.

Oh and for those that remember his sense of humour, he often mentioned this as the best poster ever (joking of course)

I am sure Dennis would like to know we still remember him and his wonderful collection.

I am speechless.  What an incredible collection, and I have a feeling this is just a small sample of his horde.
That Invisible Man piece is primo.

Sorry to hear about his passing, Ari.  Glad you guys connected and developed a friendship.

Thanks for sharing this, being I've only been collecting for a couple of years I did not know Dennis.  But that is an astonishing looking collection and displayed beautifully.

Ari, just curious - do you know what happened to his collection?

As usual, I doubt anyone close to him cared 10% as much about his collection as he did which is always very sad.

Hopefully it was treated right after he passed...

Yes, Thanks for posting Ari, I don't think the word "WOW" does that collection justice, there needs to be a whole load of swear words before it.

Heritage got some of it for sure after his wife passed away not long after Dennis left this dimension.  Pretty sure he was younger than me, but I suspect his life inhaling toxic dust as a dry waller (I think that was his occupation) was a contributing factor.  Was quite blown away when he posted his picture, hippie hair and all.

That Belgian "Invisible Man" haunts me to this day.  IwishIwishIwishIwishIwishIwishIwish...

yeah early 40's from memory, and sad his wife died so soon afterwards, she emailed me after he died thanking me for NS4 and all the pleasure it gave him, and the great support we all gave after his passing, she felt he would have loved to know how respected he was. Sadly they left a daughter behind.
And yes from Dry Walling.

PAul, SWEAR, thats what drak would have love, he never minced words.
And dont forget his commas, a typical post would be.

"ahh stuffit ya dick,,,, you got ya balls in a knot cos you lost out on a card?,,, want mummy to tuck you in? fuck that shit, ,,, dont worry Ill pat you on the back when you win it next time,,,!"

This thread deserves a bump... first, for the wonderful tribute Ari did here and second, for sharing some pix of drak's wonderful collection... especially fitting at this time of year.  >:D

But pieces like those shown above are deserving to be seen all year 'round, too.

They are just spectacular!  bed1

Dennis had a great collection that anyone could be proud of (not to say that any collection should not be a proud holding for any collector)

I always wondered where that Belgian for Chaney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) that HA auctioned came from...  bed1

I noticed the Svengali poster and Dantes Infero insert are in the next HA auction. Wonder if they're the same posters...
