Can someone walk me through how a bootleg is bootlegged?

I would imagine someone just photographs the whole poster, image, frames, words 'n' all; and then reprints it.

If so, why would there be missing bubbles?

If a bootleg is photographed piecemeal and then recreated, then I can see how there may be things missing.

I can't believe they got a Czech King Kong poster!  Damn that's pretty huge!

I have no clue what glazed means though....Most of the posters say they were "framed and glazed"?  Is that like laminating?  Any ideas?

Im gonna take a guess and say framed and "glazed" means framed with glass or plexi.

Swann Galleries' auction link above, happening today.  The first half ended, the 2nd half is starting now.  Only a few film posters, which were in the first half, but a wide variety of other nice stuff.

A lot of great posters and original artwork.  If the bidding starts near the estimates, there will not be many bargains, indeed.

Although there aren't many sales for this Jaws magazine promo dealio, it's one of the more surprising estimates, IMO.  I picked up one on eBay a few years ago, and sent it to eMovie for consignment recently.  It sold there for $73.

This one is linen backed, and the estimate is £600-900 (~$750-1150).

I like how they add the photo of a human walking past, maybe for scale.

And the lone piece in that gallery. It stands out, for sure, when displayed like that.  8)

 thumbup
has it faded from a more red colour do you think? or would that not be possible as it has been packed away for 80 odd years
also, when a new unused poster is discovered from years before, are they more often than not found with more than one copy?
probably not, but you never know. not that i have to worry about my bidding strategy with this  ;D

Neo - yep, lots of crazy estimates. i think the people who use that auction house are generally monied so they may get away with them

This Sotheby's auction closes tomorrow at 10:00 Eastern time.

Quite a few reserves have been met, including for the Jaws I mentioned earlier, currently at £500.

Seems that early French cinema poster from 1896 (Cinématographe Lumière (1896)) has WELL surpassed the estimate, with the current bid at 160,000 GBP. The estimate was 40-60K GBP.

Now to see where it might end up or if it climbs any higher.

Wow! Thanks for posting that. Looks like that’s going to be quite the return on investment, assuming a total sales price of around $45k (€32k hammer price plus fees) at the Millon auction, and maybe $1500-2000 total for restoration and framing. Obviously, Sotheby’s is a larger auction house and subsequently there was more hoopla surrounding the sale. Once again shows the power of advertising.

So based on the poster it was a film about 30 people attending the screening of a film...and possibly 14+ rating as explained by the gendarme
