But the Romanian poster for The Man Who Laughs (1928), that graced the cover of the mini catalog, was also passed on. The opening bid required was $4000.00

Zowie! Looking through the catalog, there were a LOT of posters that were PASSED on. I bought some things (eeek!) in this auction...but even though I've sent an inquiry off, i've NOT heard a peep out of these people in regards as to how i can pay them. Hmm.

A copy was sold at Christies in 1997 for £4370. Any paper from this title is pretty scarce so maybe it's the same (only?) copy re-surfacing after all these years. Whatever, it's a great poster.

Another copy (or maybe it's the same?) of that Ghoul 3S was offered at auction by Bonham on November 30, 2016 and failed to sell. The estimate was $6,000 to $8,000. The estimate went down this time around, as they're now offering it for $3,800 to $6,400.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of it being up for auction last year.

Given the scarcity of any type of British posters from the 1930s I would have thought that it would have attracted more interest. Maybe, as Paul posted on here elsewhere, there's a decline in people who have the resources wanting to buy horror stuff from that era?

Jim Gresham just posted to MOPO that some of the recovered Universal Horror material recovered by the FBI during the Haggard scandal is going up for auction from July 13-27th. And there will be NO buyer's premium due to the nature of this auction.

Everything is genuine. NO FAKES in this bunch. Gresham also mentioned that some of the pieces he is hoping to bid on and win were his originally.

Tho the auction is being conducted by Gaston & Sheehan Auctioneers, it is the U.S. Marshals Service that is offering the items. Opening bid prices are currently listed with each poster, too.
