I just got back, after spending about 4 hours at the preview of the Bonhams/TCM auction, "There's No Place Like Hollywood" items at their Sunset Blvd location. The entire inventory is there, and will be crated up and sent on to NY for the auction on Nov 24th.

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22196/

Wow.. is all I can say.. costumes, props. memorabilia... and so many posters up on the walls that were all on display.

I asked and was permitted to flip thru a completed and leather bound final script for GWTW, that David Selznick presented to screenwriter, Sydney Howard.

Plus... being up close and personal to the piano from Casablanca as well as the lion costume from The Wiz of OZ, a costume from Gilda and wardrobe from River of No Return (MMonroe).

Was a great afternoon.  thumbsup.gif

Will post pics a little later.

Ahhh Casablanca.  Would give my eye-teeth for that WC.  girly2.gif

The one for auction in London on 2 December was Benito's WC or it is Benito's. Assuming he is the consignor. Same WC

Bets on if it actually sells and if so who (or probably more accurately whoS) does?

Grief - even with my compete lack of comparative knowledge, this represents a monster collection.

I am surprised a Bond film even sullies all that is contained therein.  (Dr No lobby card)

I am however, very surprised as to why this is being sold as one item, one collection.  This can only appeal to the dealer who will break it down for resale as opposed to 'someone who wakes up one day and decides he needs an entire film memorabilia collection, and who also has a spare $8m knocking about'.

If an auction house is operating this, why are they not advocating a piece by piece sale?  Surely this would represent better $sales all round.

Thoughts?

I would imagine he is ready to cash out and not wait 3-5 years to piece it out OR just hopes it ends up staying together.

I'm thinking Morrie told Profiles that it was an "all in deal;" no discussion about selling it piecemeal.

PIH could take it or leave it, and they bit and agreed.

Wonderful that they've published a complete list.  It'll be fun going though seeing how much of what I thought I had that was "rare" isn't so much.  A great resource to have, even if I'll never get close to any of what's in it.

That said, if anybody would loan me the money I'm totally good for it.  I could pay you back...later.

Peter.....can you post the link to where the complete list is...I've been looking for it starting about two weeks ago and figured they would publish it eventually!!....Pretty Please :)

Yes Morrie is one of the best....I sold him some lobby cards that are in that collection....I was talking with him on the phone after his last auction and he said he really loved buying "dead scene" cards because they often showcased the unsung character actors of early Hollywood....He was just as thrilled with them as he was with any other paper on the title...We even talked about incomplete sets from early 1930's films that he just never could complete....we found out that he only has 4 lobby cards from Check and Double Check (the 1930 AMOS N/ ANDY film) ...and that I had 3 of the other cards he needed to nearly complete the set....and the gentleman that he is...he didn't even try to get me to sell them...

The best part is we have a serious rivalry going for silent Buster Keaton lobby cards.."the really good stuff" he calls them....we have gone head to head in bidding wars many times...

I love the estimates - they are laughable...   Check out this pearl harbor "one time showing" poster with a 50 - 70 pound estimate.  You can get it on eBay right now for $10...

And 1100 pound for a German three panel for Apocalypse now...

The last German APOC tri panel that emovie sold, in 2013, went for $116.00 (tho it was in a more used condition, with some small scuffs and dings).
