Recommended Restorer and Linenbacker in NYC?
« on: March 28, 2019, 01:46:59 AM »
Hi, I have a couple of posters that I’d link to have linen backed, there are also a few issues with the posters that I’d like restored (slight staining, cross fold separation, and cello tape). Can someone please recommend a restorer that would do a good job in the NYC area?

Are Philip Williams still around in Tribeca? The store is a wonderland, both movie posters, advertising and art posters. I think they do their own linebacking. Can not speak for the quality of the work but the shop is well worth a visit!

Thank you! Yes, I've checked and it does seem that the poster museum is still there and Philip does do restorations.  Do you recommend?

I have not had any of my own material backed there. I went there several times but it was years ago, I talked to the owner and also bought some advertising posters (unbacked as they were new).

But it is easy to check their work - there are hundreds of backed posters on display in the shop! You can go there, look at their work and talk to the proprietor. Hopefully this should give you enough to decide if you want to trust them.
