Incomplete and Partial Posters
« on: October 22, 2018, 10:33:18 AM »
Apologies if there is a thread for this already. I looked and didn't find it.

I don't post very often but lurk a bit. What are your thought on incomplete or partial posters? I recently purchased two pieces of "The Mummy" 1959 six-sheet. I understand that the odds of ever completing the poster are slim to none, but I really love it and even half of it looks amazing to me. I suppose if someone here has another portion it could find a home (long shot).

What partials do you have? Is it worth posting them in hopes of reuniting some old paper?

Another member posted a partial 3sh that he owns in hopes of finding the top panel, so there is a chance, I think that you could find the other panels (plus a few others)... but a cool score in that you go the sections that show the full mummy!

A neat find, for sure.

IMO, a better possibility is to look for a complete poster in poor to fair condition.  Use your partial set to lower the restoration costs.

Personally, I have never heard of anyone finding missing panels from an incomplete 3 or 6 sheet.

Me neither,  I have several, and have been looking for many years with no luck.

Yours being more recent, and from the US, you have a good chance, or as Jay said, find a tatty one and add yours to it..

Personally I think you got a bargain, as I'd rather own a bit than nothing from certain titles.

Good idea about buying a lesser example to complete it. I figure that the chances of ever finding another example of it for sale in any condition is unlikely. Six sheets are pretty uncommon to begin with. Agree that the price was right to pick up something so cool and will likely keep me in the hunt for perhaps the rest of my life.

Great hunting, Iojabba!  It is a great price, and I think definitely worth taking the chance.  If you like the hunt, like me, you can have a lot of fun while you search.  Some good advice from Jayn_j, too.  Good luck!  Okie

Really?  I know of several medium ticket items (high hundreds to low thousands) that have been reunited.
I believe Rich has put some together before also.

Got the top half of this one:

Of course, I'd love to find the bottom chunk but I think just this portion stands alone pretty well.

The lone lower leg and foot in the O of SOULS, is a nice added touch, when seen this way, too.  thumbsup.gif

Rich color and great use of the blue-green palette on your English Son of Frankenstein bottom sheet, Paul!  It's great to see. Thank you for the humor and showing it off.  I really like it. Okie

yep.. I completed an Invasion of the Body Snatchers 3 sheet this year.
I've also completed a match for a Burne Hogarth 'Tarzan' Sunday page from 1942, and matched an Alex Raymond 'Flash Gordon' with the Jungle Jim topper (these are art items)

it can be done. you just have to be watching

perfectly illustrates a time period with lower berth producers where they would make it so the top portion can be displayed just like a 40x60
