THE ERNST GALLERY: VINTAGE HUNGARIAN FILM POSTERS (1912-1945)
« on: October 07, 2010, 06:45:50 PM »
I was reading a very interesting MoPo discussion today regarding the pros and cons of linen backing and, while looking at the poster in question, I followed the link to this remarkable gallery of some of the most stunning posters ever created.  Check this out but wear a bib so you don't drool all over your keyboard...

Your welcome, Peter.  They produced some tremendous posters back in the day, didn't they?

Awesome site Brude!

They produced some tremendous posters recently as well........just look at Thierry's star wars posters and the CE3K one he is after.  I have this apocalypse now.

The Hungarian poster for The Godfather is without a doubt the best poster for the title, and it isn't even close.  Bear witness:

And there are others that I have seen (and probably dozens I haven't) I will let you discover for yourself.  I can only imagine what a Hungarian Terminator or ET looks like.  I am serious in saying, though, that even finding digital images for Hungarian posters is as hard as tracking down many of the posters in the unicorns thread.  Finding the actual posters??  I don't think needle in a haystack begins to describe it.  A couple of us have tried in vain to source these without success.  I even called a Hungarian childhood friend who lives in Budapest to no avail.

Schan
Thanks.  You know what you did.

Impressive.
Before this internet thing, I had no idea of the scope of international movie poster art and the variations on a theme. So much of this is new to me. Every day is a discovery and feeds my poster mania.
If I post a link that you all frequently travel, tell me so I can avoid newbie embarrassment.
That Apocalypse Now used to be your avatar, right?
