Buy It Nows & Other Earthly Delights
« on: February 20, 2018, 09:00:45 PM »
Unlike the mid auction analysis thread or Post-auction thread, buy it now items are a different breed, since the seller is not running an auction but has it stamped with a set price (and often with a Best Offer option, too, which also be interesting to see, as far as what a seller was willing to take for a poster).

I always thought these items, if discussed, would be better in a separate topic? I'll start with one I just posted in the "Mid-auction" thread. And if this thread should go nowhere and it withers on the vine, we can just merge these items back to the other, where they were.  :)

Looks like the French Bride of Frank 1P that Todd Feiertag was helping the owner find a buyer for, and who was willing to let it go for $30K (after paying $35+K to HA in their July 2017 Sig auction - (https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/horror/the-bride-of-frankenstein-universal-1935-french-grande-465-x-62-joseph-koutachy-artwork/a/7162-86254.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515), got no buyer.

So it has been consigned and is now available here with a BIN of $51,995.00 / obo:

Another BIN for a Universal movie item .

This with a price tag of $7500.00 / obo

A US insert for the flicker, Black Friday (1940), with Karloff & Lugosi teamed up once again. The seller says this is the only copy they are familiar with that has come to auction before. I think it's one fine looking insert, art-wise, too.

And unlike some others who "disclosed/revealed" ebay items, whether they were BINs or auctions with a low opening bid or buy it now price, I wont be posting those kinds of items in this thread.

Things I post here will be posters that have heftier BIN price tags, like the ones above, or things that people like Todd Feiertag or Benito list, as just a couple seller examples.  :)

Heftier BIN to you is a low opening bid to someone else.
Basically it sounds like you are asking to shame dealers who have prices over what someone feels is FMV. Don't we have enough of that going on in the other threads?

These are items found on ebay. Yes the French BoF was consigned to a dealer and now has a higher asking price. But there's no shaming going on, nor was that ever even intended with this thread. I was seeing at as an offshoot of the Mid-auction thread, but looking at more expensive items only.

Prior to this, Ive often posted more pricey posters like the above that had a set price in the mid auction thread, but it didnt really seem the right place since items with BINs or best offer options arent truly auctions.

And since there was more chatter recently about how horror material was doing these days, I thought this could show how some of that material might perform, whether it sold for the BIN or the seller agreed to a best offer.

Thanks, Jeff.  I think it makes for an interesting few months case study for this poster.  It's already having it's own bit of a whirlwind.  Okie

Aren't those two sentences in effect contradicting one another?

If someone can see a BIN as a low opening bid, then where would the shaming be in that?

Anyway, suffice to say, I don't see this thread as that.  Hope it finds its legs.

A hefty BIN and a hefty opening listed bid are different, though if the opening bid figure is very high, it could almost be the same as a 'buy it now' price.

One example that was just posted about (also in the mid auction thread), was for a linen backed US OS for Gilda. The seller had an opening bid of $49,000.00 on the poster. In that case, I bet that had someone placed a bid at that opening number, it would have been like a BIN, too, & very possibly being had for that opening bid price.

As a little follow up - The Gilda poster got no bids before it closed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GILDA-Style-B-Original-One-Sheet-Movie-Poster-1946-Rita-Hayworth-on-LINEN-/192450284799?hash=item2cceee4cff%3Ag%3A6GYAAOSwfpBaaAgO&nma=true&si=vaCX2z%252BDHoCuxGPr%252F8Wd6O2n99A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

If listed again, it will be interesting to see if that same opening bid is attached again, or if it re-listed with a set price.

I see these things pop up in my Bond search from time to time.

I am not sure what the Bond connection actually is as the serial number only shows AK47 on it...?!

That said, and when feel so inclined, I write to the sellers declaring that these things are worth at £1m, and good luck with the sale.  Needless to say, there is rarely a reply.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AK-47-Five-Pound-Note-James-Bond-Fav-No-420-Bank-Of-England-Genuine-Serial/183086205161?hash=item2aa0c9c8e9:g:TqoAAOSwa~BYZ4Cm

This one below actually does have 007 in the serial number and just to help the sale along, he pops an image of Bond in Skyfall along side - probably the cementer for all those hovering on the edge of purchase.

This one is a steel...!

I think it came from the recent Ewbanks auction.  I had no idea it is a printers' proof, and to be frank I am still not convinced of that.

However what I am convinced about is its outright tattiness for an outrageous price.

Thoughts?

Down to $6299.00 They are determined to get this sold. ;)  I wonder how low it will go before it sells? It does have some condition issues, too.

If they were determined to sell it, they could start it at $10 and just auction it.

The baby price drops continue, with it now priced at $5100.00 / OBO

$112.50 per poster.

Does that sound likely?  Note, question from someone who knows not a jot about the Polish market?

Well, it is likely if this guy can find a buyer with more money than sense. There's been a glut of Polish posters recently and they are rather an acquired taste. The problem with them is the graphics have a political message you have to be able to read Polish to understand. Otherwise, they're for wrapping fish. $112.50 per poster plus $750. shipping?? Cholera!

That comment could better describe the better use for a good number of Australian daybills.  ;D

The best Polish posters are superb, and worth a decent amount of money. But the valuable ones are all for non-Polish films. This listing includes a lot of Polish and USSR titles, which are not desirable for international collectors. The overall price is well padded in my opinion.

Yes, Polish posters often have very different, interesting or "out there" artwork, many of which can be amazing and beautiful to look at, but I wouldnt describe them political in tone or text (tho some might have that element incorporated, in some fashion).
