So, 40 years, 9 movies:

*****

First, how would you rank them? Feel free to add grades, short comments:

ex. 3 ("nooooooo!"), 1 (Grade F-).......

*****

Second, are they now putting them out too often? (Once a year for the "new" chapters and stories.)

Surprise, I'll start:

I GUARANTEE that no one will agree with my ranking  Doh.gif

Yep, Disney should wait two years, not one, between releases.

James Bond (28 official/unofficial movies 1962-2015) has "survived and thrived" by appearing, on average, every two years.

By contrast ABC notoriously quickly killed their golden goose "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" by running it 3-4 times a week.

5 (A+), 4 (A), 3.5 (A), 6 (A-), 7 (A-), 8 (A-), 3 (B), 2 (C), 1 (D).

And once a year is fine.  If Marvel can survive and thrive with 3-4 movies a year since 2002, so can Lucasfilm with one movie a year.

Saw SW7:TFA on iTunes and liked it much better this time. Even though it rehashed too much (Snopes=Emperor Palpatine, etc), it very closely matched the adventuresome spirit of the first trilogy.

But you don't care about my IMOs. But this will pique your "interest":

So 8/TLJ is 29% behind 7/TFA after 3 weeks, but the studio is spinning that it expected the drop bc 7 was "a spacial case" bc it was the first post-Lucas film and the first SW in 12 years....

Last Jedi was never going to be as big as Force Awakens, just like Empire Strikes Back had a smaller BO than Star Wars, or Episode 2 than Episode 1.  It's still hard to scoff at a movie that makes $620 millions domestically and $1.4 billion internationally.

Agreed.

Just as Skyfall is known in a celebratory fashion to be the first Bond film to cross the $1bn mark worldwide, as far as the US Domestic returns were concerned for this film, after the entire run and a final Push by the studio, it managed to just squeak past the $300m mark.

The Last Jedi did the $300m in one week.

Clearly the US love their fantasy and sci-fi.

Random SW tidbits:

1) Like Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones charges $200 for her signature at fan events. (Hamill commands $300). Wonder what unusual items they've signed?

*****

2) "Some people claim there's a woman to blame...." (Jimmy Buffett)

If you disdained the scene in TLJ where Leia used the Force to rescue herself from outer space, you really can blame a woman! Director Rian Johnson recently said that LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy frequently questioned why Leia had never used her Skywalker-Force powers, which inspired the scene.

But....

*****

3) Last night at the Golden Globes, Ewan McGregor said he'd like to reprise the Obi-Wan role again in the upcoming movie but had heard "nothing" from Lucasfilm.

Chance he won't be rehired?

Randomly stumbled on this star-packed 40th anniversary panel, including Harrison Ford and John Williams conducts live. It's just short snippets, would like to see more/less in parts:

Mark Hamill has complained that Disney is ignoring George Lucas' plan for the sequel trilogy.

Excellent Wikipedia article reveals something new (at least to me): GL recently updated the plans and TLJ incorporated some of their plot points:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_sequel_trilogy

JJ Abrams has said that Disney had rejected GL's plans before he was hired for SW7....

Ha, Rian Johnson on Twitter proclaimed undying love for this "sucktastic" MP  ;)

****

Everybody wants to be popular AND a comedian on the Internet and RJ is no exception. Star Wars dweebs protested Luke's "Force projection" in TLJ and RJ demolished them by posting pics from an official "canon" SW book:

Super-classy porn star and DT-[bleep]er Stormy Daniels tweeted that "TLJ was the worst movie ever" and RJ responded:

*****

Hopefully, he won't take the "path" of Damon Lindelof, co-writer of the TV show Lost and Star Trek 2 (reboot), who infamously tweeted thousands of times mocking (and sometimes agreeing with!) his tidal wave of critics/trolls. One day he came to his senses and deleted his Twitter account!

Well it surfaced..

$7.5m to air it?  In the day and age of Youtube ads, I wonder if it could ever be worth it...?

Yep, they're milking it to death quickly. Article does not mention similar TV fiascos, like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, pointless Happy Day spinoffs. Star Trek is doing Ok with just one TV series and an occasional movie.

I totally agree with this. Churning out so many SW films is going to dilute the whole franchise to nothingness. If spinoffs are done for many of the major characters, or what was going on with them as youngsters, side adventures, new casts of characters that are all under the SW banner, I think the public will grow weary and not care, as the "specialness" of what SW was wears off (just mho, of course).

But it's all about the $$. Perhaps when box office receipts show otherwise, execs might rethink it all.

Kind of like all the various Star Trek movies / TV series spinoffs that have been done over the years.

With SW being my favorite thing, I'm really worried about this and sadly, totally agree.
