Posterfix expands his offerings
« on: June 03, 2015, 11:15:03 PM »
Thought this was interesting. while perusing E-Bay earlier I came across a listing for a reproduction WWI James Montgomery Flagg Uncle Sam I want You poster. I have been thinking of picking up a nice repop since teh original is outside my price range at this point so clicked on it to have a look and of all the sellers I expected to see it was none other than everyone's favorite restorer Posterfix. He now appears to be selling posters from around the world and has moved into reproductions as well. Needless to say in the listing it states "some wear at corners"then  you look at the pictures and say no wonder, he has those same damn rusty weights holding the corners down.

He has sold repros occasionally, and the real deal, for a while, now... to supplement the P-Fix sales...  ;D

There was a post to MOPO not too long ago, stating that now his wife (as well as his mother in law, aka Miss Elmer's Glue Applier) is joining his workshop. Maybe his wife prefers to use rubber cement for her repairs? It is more waterproof.   ;D

Mike (Undead), I thought you might particularly appreciate this little update to your thread.  pcorn

The latest offering:

Pfix will now videotape the restoration process of your poster (but only if they find the poster interesting, that is), for FREE, if you use their restoration and backing services.

Nothing like seeing, first hand, the way they sit things on posters - rusted cans with watercolor pencils, or lean on them with bare arms, throw torn pieces of posters away that may have torn loose, or showing the infamous application of Elmer's Glue to repair damage THEY have caused.   Doh.gif uhno

All makes for fun viewing as well as iron clad evidence of any damage they cause.

Cloutier emailed this last month. Here's most of it, (cut and pasted):

"After 26 years, Posterfix is still in operating in Brooklyn, restoring vintage original posters.
My son is now 9 years old and just gave his 6th piano recital at Steinway Hall in Manhattan.

Our operating expenses are high and I was hoping you would send us one or more posters to Linen back!
If you buy our services, I will work out a good price as well as a turn-around time that meets your needs. I will shoot video of your posters being restored for free if they are interestin and unique.

If you choose to visit us, please make an appointment so I can clear you with the Brooklyn Navy Yard security. (where they are located).

I hope I get a chance to work on your posters again.

Best regards,

Chris Cloutier"
