Restoring The Prince Chap
« on: August 17, 2017, 08:20:56 AM »
We were recently asked to restore a poster with such a compelling history, we just had to capture the entire process on video. In July, we started working on a three sheet for the 1920 film The Prince Chap. It really is a beautiful poster with wonderful artwork and vibrant colors. However, this was another example of the lack of value placed on movie posters, both from a monetary and historical perspective. It required considerable time and effort to bring this piece back to life, but I certainly feel it was worth it. Please take a few minutes to watch the video, get a better appreciation for the restoration process and judge the final result for yourself. Click on the link below:

Cheers, Dan Miles, Backingtothefuture.

What a great looking poster AND restoration job you all did, Dan.

How long in total (hours) was put into the project, in total?

Truly wonderful results! clap clap clap

Dan, just curious... when watching your video again. I see that the bottom area with the credits (the white area) was airbrushed with what looks like a very light cream colored paint, rather than doing it in a tanned color, to reflect the patina of the aged paper.

Was that light paint color requested by the owner?

Hey Jeff... the entire restoration from start to finish took about 25 hours... as for the colour of the credit area, we provided a clean looking finish... Cheers, Dan.

Again, it looks great, Dan. And with having to figure out and painstakingly put back all those "puzzle pieces," the time spent on it was well worth that final result.

Very nice !!  I really enjoyed watching it.

Personally, not sure about the all white spray on credit.  Looks very white once next to "old" photo.

Thanks for sharing
