Obscure 80s slasher poster
« on: April 09, 2017, 08:41:21 PM »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me a little info on a poster i found. There is a horror movie called "the Mutilator/ Fall break" from 1984. It was originally called "Fall Break" but i guess it was re-titled later to make more appealing. I recently found the "Fall break" poster but can't seem to find any info on it. I can only find info on the poster with the "mutilator" title. The Mutilator is about a 50 dl poster but i wanted to find out a value for the "fall break" variation.

Mutilator/Fall break:

Any help appreciated

darien, I suggest the Fall Break title would be worth less. Part of the allure of the Mutilator poster is the dead corpses & weird menace aspect... not to mention the bikini hottie.

Yeah, i could understand that. I don't know much about the movie personally. I was aware of it enough to know it's alternate title though. The fall break art isn't particularly spectacular but i think it's cool that its been pretty much forgotten.

Hi Darian.

I have both posters as well. FALL BREAK was the intended title, and as you can see, posters were printed with the title. However, it was never released with that title. To make it more bankable (what is a FALL BREAK anyway? No one calls Thanksgiving break "Fall Break"), it was re-christened THE MUTILATOR and given new (and better) art. I read about the film and the re-titling years ago in FANGORIA. Then, many years later (maybe 10 years ago? More?) I bought BOTH posters from a guy on eBay...and it had been the guy who had written the article. The director (Buddy Cooper) had given him a bunch of the posters. I would guess the FALL BREAK poster to be rarer because it was never used. But THE MUTILATOR is much more interesting---and, i agree, probably the more valuable of the two.

I saw this movie when it came out. I went alone. There was a person with obvious mental issues also watching the movie and he kept getting up and standing under the screen and looking out at the audience, rocking back and forth....then he'd sit down for a while before doing it again. His seat? Right behind me!  EEEK! Jeepers. Glad this was the 80s. Had it been today, the guy might have had a gun or something. CRAZY!

But cool posters...especially the MUTILATOR one.

IIRC correctly, Buddy Cooper was actually signing and selling a bunch of these on ebay a few years ago. I had The Mutilator poster hanging in my basement, but it was decided to be a little "too much" for my kids, so I passed it on to another collector.
