This is a great piece, Terry.
I just love the airbrush details.

Thanks, Brude, though no scan posted on the internet can really do the artwork justice.  The delicacy of line-work and vibrant use of colour is difficult to replicate on a forum posting that only allows small-scale attachments.

Will post a few more Dan Dares . . .

Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future - The Ship That Lived

Here's a nice Frank Hampson Dan Dare front cover artwork from 1958.  The blank area at top left is where the Eagle logo would have been added during the printing process.

Eagle was an anthology title containing various comic-strips and written features.  Dan Dare was a weekly two-page strip printed on the front cover and interior page two.

Pencilled Modesty Blaise tryout daily strip by Frank Hampson

Here's something not many people will be aware of . . .

In the lead-up stage to launching the Modesty Blaise newspaper serial Frank Hampson was the very first artist to be considered for drawing the strip.  Hampson illustrated several weeks worth of continuities but was ultimately blocked by the strip's writer, Peter O'Donnell, who wanted his artist friend, Jim Holdaway, to be given the strip.

Eight of Hampson's tryout dailies survived (I used to own them all at one time) and I kept this pencils-only daily as a nice example of 'what might have been' . . .

Like Terry, I once had a collection of a couple hundred EC pages, Mad art & a dozen of so covers (talking keepers, not stuff that was for stock at time of ownership)

I've sold it all, for prices that were records at the time, but I still have this from Mad #24

I sold it when I had the gallery, so 2005 or earlier. I had it for about 15 years

Here's a selection of EC cover art I owned at one time.  The Aces High # 2 cover, I think, belonged to Richie at one point . . .

And two more.  Also used to own the Haunt of Fear # 6, an early cover from Vault of Horror, another Modern Love cover and Going Steady With Peggy # 1 (a Feldstein title that never saw print).

I still have two Johnny Craig (pre-trend) Western covers, the Crime Patrol cover posted earlier in this thread, and two complete books (covers and interiors) from the time Entertaining Comics was Educational Comics.

Unpublished pre-code ACG cover intended for Adventures into the Unknown by Ken Bald.  Issue range, for which this cover was intended, would have been #s 28 - 33 (1952).
