WOW. This would be something, if true, to finally have a copy available for viewing after all these years!  prayer.gif

I still believe that a print will surface somewhere someday.
Hopefully, this is it while I'm still alive.

I don't know why everyone is so hung up on this movie. Period reviews said it wasn't that great. There are so many other films that, in my opinion, should be found before this one, like "4 Devils".

Ive read, too, that this flick is far from stellar. I guess it's more the idea that it has gained this almost mythical status, because it has been lost, all these years.

And for Lon Chaney fans and film historians alike, it would be nice to have another to add to the Chaney film "list."

But there are So many out there that folks are hoping to be found, there's no doubt about that.  prayer.gif prayer.gif

HMMMMmmmmm,

Help me understand something please-
So I saw on HA that this poster sold for like 1/2 million dollars. That's like awesome and crazy at the same time! It is a truly awesome painting/poster. It really cool is cool.
With that said, I'm thinking that the poster price was so high because it's a great classic movie AND it's a beautiful poster. But looking through the forum and educating myself here, it seems like, at least from this thread, that no one has seen this movie. Is this correct? It's just a really old movie that never got saved somehow?
I get why movies like King Kong & Casablanca and such are so high, because they are classics, people have seen them, and visually cool. But (again I could be wrong), no one has seen this movie yes? I guess they are buying it purely on the visual?
Favorites?
-Original Trilogy Star Wars    -Audrey Hepburn    -Frank Capra movies    -Foreign movies
--------& Anything obscure, unique, & foreign made (especially Star Wars)

the value of the poster is this:

1) Lon Chaney movie
2) horror movie
3) vampire movie

as to the film itself. it is not known to exist. The last known print was destroyed in the MGM film warehouse fire in 1967
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_MGM_vault_fire

and as an update. the article leading to this thread was debunked. No reels were found

So much was lost forever in that fire, negatives, prints, from so many films. It was a devastating thing.

But if you want an Argentinean copy of the poster,  bed1 bed1 bed1 with virtually the same artwork (redrawn), you can get it here:

Its a bargain (tho not A Blind Bargain   ;)  ) at only $65K

It really is sad to read that all that stuff is gone forever (from a fire). That's news to me & it's just kinda been sinking in today.
I hope after that  tragedy studios build fire retardant warehouses and other stuff so that it would never happen again.

I think the film being lost only adds to the value and cult around the film too. If a copy ever does surface and turns out to be a proper stinker...  Doh.gif
