That's tough, and it makes you wonder why.  Did they just print ten of these or something?

The mock-up was initially rejected by Universal/Spielberg and printed at Bass' request.  200 were printed.  When Saul Bass died in 96, a Universal distribution honcho got the posters.  He gave some away, I got a few, and eventually sold the rest in 08 through Moviegoods.  This poster was never printed by the studio but by Saul Bass himself.

Thanks for that.  I never knew that.  Though Moviegoods.  I wonder how much they charged for it...

$399.99 initially.  If I remember correctly, the price went up towards the end.

A few have passed through my hands -- all originated from the Moviegoods sale.

Well, it is quite a remarkable design by a very famous poster artist for a memorable movie that won an Academy Award for best picture by a famed director and there are way less than 200 in existence.  I personally trashed one that didn't meet my requirements.  Not recently, but back then.

So the price doesn't surprise me.  It's a beautiful poster.

One could argue that there are probably far more of them in existence than there are VERTIGO one sheets, and the price is near on some of those examples.  That is remarkable in my book.  A good poster.

there were also some in one of the rolled poster lots from Collectors Book Store auction in 2008. I did not win that lot and I believe Heritage did.
