October 2016
« on: October 03, 2016, 01:39:02 AM »
Here's one that came in a while ago..and it got set off to the side, for some reason. But adding it here and now. Plus, it's a James ("Frankenstein") Whale production, so it's rather in tune with the "scary/Halloween" season of the year., based on his previous, directed flickers.  >:D

The movie is called Green Hell and is from 1941, produced by Universal. This is the Swedish OS with art by Aberg. I think this imagery far outshines the US material that was put out for the movie (imho). There is a snipe over the printed, Universal logo (lower right corner) and I'm undecided about its removal, at this point.

Very cool, shame they covered the Uni logo though.

I will most likely remove the snipe (and keep it), so that the UNI logo is visible again.

Here is a poster I've acquired a while ago. This is a personal favorite of mine as it is for a great film and has a great design by Christian Broutin whom I had the chance to have met a while back. Sorry this is not a very "recent" acquisition, but as this is my first post regarding my collection, I wanted to share a piece I really like.

Nice, Seckin. There is something totally alluring about that imagery, too.

I'm going to double post to share some SW posters I got out recently. The Australian one sheet is the proper recent acquisition (my copy was really, really rough...so I got it linen backed and it came back a few weeks ago). The other two I picked up in the last 18 months or so, but I thought they look nice in a row. Empire is my favourite SW film and I really love the Ohrai and Kastel art

Nicely done, Tob!

@Seckin
Your Pickpocket poster is a very nice example of Broutin's work.
I'm sure you've seen some of his horror covers (which I've always liked).
For those who haven't, see here:

Love the trio, there, Tob. They look smashing, lined up in that grouping together.

Bravo. And your linen backed AU copy looks outstanding, as well.

Nice job. Can I ask who you had do the work?

Nice pickups Tob! Still need that dang middle one myself. The Ohrai  is one of my favorites from all three films.

Yes, the international is quite rare.  How many copies in existence, Mike?

I honestly don't know, I stop counting when they pass 15-20. There were around 12 new never before seen by me freshly surfaced copies that popped up this year alone and they are well past the 20+ mark now. Interesting though is that almost none of them are folded maybe 3-4 that I can think of, the rest are rolled.

For those wondering how I can tell I take each new copy's unique markings be it edge wear, a rip, crease, printing mark, alignment or anything that is unique to that specific copy and use it as an identifier like a fingerprint would be used. The only way for one to not be distinguishable from another would be if it was a dead mint copy off of the same plate and plate location on the press when printed. It is I am sure not 100% foolproof but close enough for my purposes.

As an example Tob's has fold marks and just the wear at the center top cross fold alone would be enough to say it is that specific copy unless it suffered further damage. There are other marks on that one that would identify it though.

Another one just sold for a grand last week. More people watching foreign auctions these days kills about any bargain to be had anywhere.

Yup, was watching that one, won't go anywhere near that price though. Too many other posters I would buy in that price range first even as a serious Star Wars collector.

The really scary thing is that the same seller sold a rolled studio style D for a whopping $28 the same day, wish it was me on that one. Hell of a deal imo.

Thanks guys. Jeff - I gave Jaime Mendez a try after getting some advice from a couple of members. I'm pleased with the work, cleaned up nicely but not overly so.

Regarding the Intl, I bid on that one and I'm sure 2 or 3 others bid way over me, but for some reason the seller messaged me a few weeks later and sold to me for my bid - perhaps the other bids were shills or perhaps the other bidders dropped out because the condition is a little rough...either way I was pretty thrilled as my budget doesn't stretch to one in great shape and I'm really happy with this one.

Thanks, Tob.

It presents really well and "the less is more approach" to what you had done to it, sure was the way to go.

Might you have a pic of it, when you first got it? And so as not to go off the rails of this thread, maybe you could post the before and after pix here?  http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,4517.0.html

Would be great to see, thats for sure.  :D

Thanks guys. Brude, I just could not get a hold of the link you put on the site. Can you please check if it works? I am familiar with Broutin's work, but not for the horror ones. Thanks again!

Hi Seckin,

It looks like Ted (brude) had put the site link above in between image tags, so the link wasnt appearing (i know i couldnt see it either).

Try this, it should take you to the Broutin site Ted mentioned:  http://monsterbrains.blogspot.com/2010/06/histories-of-nightmares-ghosts-demons.html
