August 2016
« on: August 01, 2016, 08:31:36 AM »
Hi there. Happy August...

I am just about to post my usual first day of the month post on my thread to share my new acquisitions (including my recent Heritage Signature Auction wins). As I sometimes do, here is a sample (not the best...not the worst...and not the Heritage items) of what is there.

THE NEON DEMON:

I really want to see this movie....and it's already come and gone. Drat!  Anyone see it? Is it any good? Worth seeing?

SHIVERS (aka THEY CAME FROM WITHIN) and RABID (British Quad combo):

I really dig the combo quads. I don't know why we didn't have more combo one sheets over here...and for two Cronenberg hits. Zowie!

FORBIDDEN ZONE (French small affiche):

Cool poster for the early 1980s underground cult film (that stars Herve Villechaize, Susan Tyrrell and the Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo --as they are billed). Was there a US one sheet for this? Hmm...

Have a groovy August...(Oh, i can't wait for this long, hot summer to end...)

CHEERS!

Monster A Go-Go, that Neon Demon is great!

Here are some that just came in and some that arrived a few months ago...

Slapshot - The Hanson Brothers...tinfoil on the knuckles :)

The Jungle Book - Really like the "characters in a line" design

Escape from New York - Snake's the man!

Akira - finally found one under the radar...

True Romance - a few of these have shown up in the forum the last few weeks, found a set but had to duke it out to get it.

Deadpool

Un Homme et Une Femme

Breakfast at Tiffany's - this one's a keeper...

Jungle Book, Un Homme et une Femme, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Thunder Birds are great.  Especially Thunder Birds.  I think I have an insert for that movie.  Need the OS now.

Nice, Devin. And interesting how every actor was drawn, (aside from Paul Newman), where a photo was used for him, from roughly the waist up.

I really like that cartoon aspect of the poster, if they had all been photographed I don't think I would have picked it up.

Yesterday (Tuesday) was kind to me.
First, I received this Aussie one sheet from APF-buddy, Tob (Thanks, man!)
Not only is it my favorite film of 2015 and my favorite design for the film, but it is a COO poster, to boot.

  dancingalien.gif

Then, later that same day, I won these 3 from Bruce (EMP).
Now, I have a pretty steadfast rule not to post anything until it has arrived safe and sound, but Bruce never fails... so, what the hell... here they are...

This is a 1978 UK one-sheet for the Jerzy Skolimowski thriller about ancient aboriginal magic.
I loved the movie and have finally found my poster of choice... and its another COO, to boot.

I remember seeing this in the theaters back in 1975... talk about hot and bothered...

Last (but not least) is this intl one sheet featuring Natalie Wood from 1966.
Its got some edge and border issues, but the art is great.

Nice looking 4-some there, Ted. And Natalie looks particularly fine on the TPIC OS.  ;)

I really like The Shout poster, too. GREAT imagery. I dont know the flicker at all, but your description and the poster now have me curious.

Congrats on the acquisitions.  thumbup

Congrats on YOUR haul there, Brudester. I dig all of them. The MAD MAX is my fave of the four, but I've been looking for a STORY OF O off and on for years, THE SHOUT I have heard of---but never saw it (Heard good things about it too) and the image of Natalie Wood is very nice. Good job all around. Now, where the heck have you been Ted?

Thanks, Shawn.
Yes, even though Natalie's poster is kinda chewed up, the image has long been my favorite of her and was illustrated by Frank McCarthy, a legend in the biz. http://www.conancompletist.com/darkofthesun/McCarthy_the_list.html

Now, where've I been?
I'm not quite sure.
It's still a blur..... a maelstrom of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll.  imbecile.gif

August is off to a killer start! Congrats to everyone on the killer hauls.

Here are a few of my more recent buys...

MPAA - Attention Parents: Another notch in my belt towards collecting all of the MPAA ratings posters

It Follows: This indie horror had a lot of great looking media produced to promote it. This is a design I had not seen previous, the Jp. chirashi.

Predator: U.S. alt. style OS

Planet Terror: Commercial OS . I don't usually go for commercial paper, but really dug the design/image on this one.

Bug: I posted an alternate style OS to this underrated film not long ago. Happened across this version and hopped on it.

Society: U.S. OS . One of my favorite horror movies of the 90's.. stoked to finally had this to my collection.

Lovin the MPAA poster (a fellow after my own heart)
The Shout, excellent as is the film (great to see Ted back at it)
Neon Demon, jolllyfine
Rabid and Shivers D/B.  You can never go wrong with Quads.... ;)

Hope I can find something to match you people this month.
It's more than a Hobby...

August is looking to be a good month. Congrats all round.

Very happy to get these Alice pieces as I've been desperate to find this artwork in poster form. The seller says they are a full set from the Paris Metro but I'm certain theres one more with the White Queen. Still very happy and gives me something to search for...

The Suicide Squad is from the European Premiere. Wish I could have got the other version too but I did well to get this. Not many on display and probably the busiest Premiere I've seen.
