The Queen of England?  Beyonce (somebody told me she spend $20,000 at an NYC poster shop)?  Lindsay Lohan?
You guys are such teases.

I am not sure why this is a tease.
The question was "why don't women collect posters?", my observations are similar to Bruce's - not only do women collect posters, but the single biggest buyer in the hobby the past several years has been a women.

I'm guessing most of you didn't know who was behind "bidder #2"

that said, I think it's just a matter of women overall having less interest in hobbies that men are more interested in. Similarly, though one donkey on the Jerry Springer Show was an ass who collected Beanie Babies, much to his wifes chagrin (because he liked to have the bed full of Beanies when they slept or especially when they had sex (man that is ferkin weird)), I doubt Beanie Babies were ever widely collected amongst men.

I suggest the percentile of men-women ratio in poster or comic collecting is similar to the users of Wikipedia.

I should also add.. my ex-wife was always more interested in buying a new couch, kitchenware, curtains or shoes than she ever was in seeing me spend money of collectible shyte

whilst most guys I know could care less if they were sitting on a couch or a milk crate while watching a football game

to each his own

Pretty much spot on.  Ironically, one the best collections of DC comics belongs to a woman.  Go figure

one of my best customers at markets in Sydney was a young girl, about 15 years old, and loved GEORGE SANDERS, I also have a local client now who collects Lugosi stuff, she isnt rich, so nothing special, but she does buy.

But collecting anything as in collecting, not BUYING is usually a male domain.
Saying that the ALBANY COLLECTORS CLUB I joined is mainly female, little old ladies who collect fine china or spoons or whatever.
My mother isnt a collector, but is a hoarder.

They are there, but usually not as OCD as us fellas get.

And yes NS4 has a few, and all loverly ladies they are.

BTW Sean and Rich, I do know the lady of whom you speak. None of my business to out her, never dealt with her (my crappy Exploitation doesn't make the grade).
Good luck to her, I still can't figure what the deal was/motive. I have a hard time to believe it was a personal desire to own this stuff, but I may be very wrong. If it was an investment, then I'd say she probably had bad advise. But ahh well, I am poor and she aint, so who am I to judge (jealous though)

Sherry Goldberg runs Femmes, Fatales, and Fantasies and has posted her story on her dealer website (typical high retail prices unfortunately):

Femmes Fatales and Fantasies was the result of one little girl's love affair with the 23 year old Elizabeth Taylor. The Last Time I Saw Paris was my first Elizabeth Taylor movie and it was one that I never forgot. She became "my first favorite". Each week, I got my 25¢ allowance and rushed down to the candy store to get a movie magazine with Elizabeth Taylor on the cover. When the Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, and Eddie Fisher scandal broke, Elizabeth was on the cover of every magazine. There weren't enough quarters in the world for me. I didn't know it then, but that is when I became a collector of movie memorabilia.

When I reached puberty, I discovered Errol Flynn. Although Errol had passed into the next world before I reached that magical hormonal age, it did not lessen his impact for me on the screen. I learned that once you became a fan, you stayed a fan and the memories of those feelings would become a permanent part of you. My life changed when I first saw Captain Blood and Robin Hood, and now 50 years later, I can still remember it as if it were yesterday.

Movie posters are the lure. They are the bait with which the studios, producers and directors reel us into the theater. They have been the gateway to some of the greatest films in history. Movies are a pictorial history of our collective consciousness. They reflect the times in which we have lived and what is going on in the world. They also teach us a great deal about the past. In school, we have our history books but the movies bring history to life....

The love affair that began with a little girl's infatuation with Elizabeth Taylor grew into that little girl becoming a collector. Many of the items that I collected as a child have become quite valuable today. So if your little one wants to collect anything, consider the possibility that in 30 or 40 years time, that item may become more valuable or even priceless.

I married my husband Mark, in 1969. Over the years, he grew to share my passion for movies and posters. This is how Femmes Fatales and Fantasies was born.

I would suggest that women (as a rule) don't become collectors until they are in their 30s, this is for obvious such as raising the family etc reasons. By the time they are in their 30s it is possible her husband has been collecting for a while and although she probably enjoys the art of the movie poster joining her husband is unlikely to give her that sense of independence she is perhaps looking for.

So if collecting is in her genes she may simply turn to something else, and often look for kindred spirits such as other woman to 'join' because the social interaction is as much part of what she looks for as the collecting.
