More Movie Poster Theft
« on: May 31, 2016, 02:18:00 PM »
This was posted to MOPO this morning. It certainly doesn't hurt to spread the word and for all to keep an eye out.

"Hello,

Just a quick message to inform all of you about a very bad experience I got today.

5 of my posters have been stolen during the trip from US to Italy. The post office guy just delivered me a big empty tube...for which I had to pay 77 euros of custom's fee (how cool is that???).

The posters, ALL ON LINEN, are:

GILDA
4FOGLIO (STYLE B, very similar to the American 3sh artwork), art by Capitani

EUROPA 51 2FOGLIO

L'ISOLA DI CORALLO (KEY LARGO) 4FOGLIO, ART BY MARTINATI

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY 4FOGLIO (2ND RELEASE - "ROPE STYLE")

TOTO' 47 MORTO CHE PARLA 4FOGLIO (italian movie with Totò dated 1949).

Of course, my prayer to you is to inform me as soon as possible if someone should offer you this titles. GILDA 4FOGLIO is very rare, almost one of a kind, so there are no chances they can get away by selling it anywhere....

This is a link where you can see the image of it:  http://www.mymovies.it/poster/2/?id=10338

I can provide you the photos of the actual stolen posters if needed: just send me an email.

I'm doing, of course, anything I can from here...but any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks."

I wonder if the tube indicated it's contents were valued at high value say $10,000. I've worried about some of my tubes would be empty with a highish value on it

This is an Ebay scam, or were the posters obtained from a reputable dealer?

The Bay scam is they send an empty package so it looks like they have sent the posters, tracking etc. Ebay do nothing as tracking shows you have received and signed for the items..   Worth checking on...

The possibility that another collector got this particular item sgd at the same event is like 2 jackpots in a row (remember the scene in Casino lol  faint2.gif

Somehow, I'm not surprised it happened in Italy.  I've had similar experiences (2 of them) from Italy to the US.  I'd bet anything that my tubes left Italy empty, either from unscrupulous Italian sellers, or thieves.

That Gilda would piss me off, though.  Especially because there is nothing you can do.

Never had any problems with italian sellers as long as tracking is used (packing is another story)

Some good news for this collector, Paolo Zelati. He posted to MOPO this morning that his stolen posters were recovered! clap clap Very good news.

Sounds like maybe his posters were offered to HA to be auctioned?

And holding out for the recovery of your posters, too, Chris. This sure shows that it can happen for you, as well!

Here's his post:

"Hello everybody,

I'm very happy to inform you that my 5 Italian posters that got stolen from me 1 year ago...have been found!

I want to thank all of you for your help and support.

I'd like to keep the details confidential but I really need to thank Grey Smith for his patience, his help and most of all for his incredibly professional behavior while dealing with such delicate issue...

GILDA IS COMING HOME TO DADDY!
