Metropolis - What Will This Copy Fetch?
« on: May 24, 2016, 01:20:07 PM »
Looks like HA has a 3 sheet for Metropolis that will be part of their July 2016 Sig Auction. Is this another discovered copy? Or the one that Ralph DeLuca obtained a few years ago? In any case, it is STUNNING!!   notworthy.gif faint2.gif bed1

I uploaded the super X size on purpose, to show the detail and a poster that looks to be in fantastic condition.

The center section on the EMP image is more tan than the bottom and top thirds, compared to the HA poster.

And it will be interesting to see what the estimate is, as well as the opening bid amount.

they were pulled on at a time. by hand through that giant litho press. I shot some pictures of it once. bigger than my office.
it would be no surprise that from 100 to the next (they generally did 100 of anything) the ink mixture could be slightly different
it's also entirely possible that lighting issues during photography and monitor variances could create a discrepancy in visual results

also, they printed one section at a time on the machine (although they had 3 total presses)
what was really great is that they had up a large glass paned wall and you could go in and stand behind the wall watching them work for the First Friday Art fairs (first Friday of every month, in that area)

so today they print the top, when they are done doing the top sections, they'll change the plate & do the next section. I suspect they did about 50 single sections a day or less as it was numerous passes for each with drying in between

This is not the copy that Ralph purchased (and sold).
That was a no credits style, most would suggest that this credits copy is more desirable.

I just assumed that it was the real deal, since it was in HA's July Sig auction.

It will be interesting to read the full description on this copy, too, where it may have come from, things like that, as well.

Sean, when did Ralph sell his copy?

Any idea what he got for it?

Possibly as soon as he got it, not sure if that is important but it has been in the Aziz collection for quite some time.

Thanks for the update.

I would have thought Ralph might have kept it himself.

But good to hear it's now part of another fine collection.  thumbsup.gif
