Searching a post-apocalyptic poster of my childhood
« on: May 22, 2016, 02:44:22 PM »
Hello everyone!
I've spent years looking for a poster that my uncle was in his room when I was little.
It was a post-apocalyptic poster of a man in loincloth on a pile of rubble with a pipe in his hand in front of a ruined city.
I managed to extract a frame from an old family video where the poster appears and I wonder if anyone can help me find it.
It is difficult because the image is very low resolution but perhaps the experts here can give me a hand. The man is on the right side of the image and the city on the left.
The poster was bought in the earlies 80s in Spain. Maybe the trademark of this poster is Wizard and Genius because another poster bought at the same time is.
Thank you very much and sorry for my english.

Frank, can you remember if this was a movie poster? Or a graphic print of some kind? What size? Stuff like that, to help narrow the search down a bit.  ;)

This was a graphic print, realistic style. It was a drawing without text.
The art was similar to Luis Royo style.
The size maybe 50cm * 70 cm (20*28 in)

CJ138, not was R.O.T.O.R. The man was very much like a prehistoric man with loincloth.

Thank you for your help :)

Or if you want a cheaper one that looks like it might have gone through the apocalypse  ;D

If you search on ["a new dawn" fantasy poster] on Google you should get a few copies between eBay and Etsy.  This Etsy copy looks to be both in good condition and on the lower side of the price range:

EDIT: The more I look, the more unused copies I'm finding.  If this is indeed the poster in question then it will probably pay to do a thorough search before pulling the trigger on one.

I like how the artist's signature looks to be carved into the slab that the guy is standing on. That's a cool touch and way for him to have done that, making it look like a front piece from an office building: "J. PITRE and Co."

Matt didn't you buy a polish poster recently with very similar looking ruins?

I never thought with such a loose description this would ever have been found.

Utterly amazed.

Old school, brute force detective work.  Searched on "vintage fantasy poster" and flipped over the image results.  Then just started scrolling down until I saw *something*.  I scrolled down 2-3 screens worth and stopped on this:

Not sure why, but it just felt like it would be the style of the mystery poster from the description.  When I clicked on it, Google showed me a few more similar images and bingo bango I noticed the two distinct blobs in the blurry video screen cap -- one for the rubble, one for the dude man.

The whole thing took about 35 seconds from the time I started typing "vintage fantasy poster" into Google.  And by the way, the other poster I stopped on was done by the same artist. 8)
