Your Latest Graphic and Fine Art Buys
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:23:48 AM »
This "Latest Acquisitions" section doesn't have a general acquisitions thread, so I'll start one.

Just got this "Elekra Luxx" silkscreen 18x24 print from heroandsound.com

P.S. I've been trying to get the "Women In Trouble" and "Electra Luxx" official movie posters with no luck - any help much appreciated.

Alamo Wolfman by Martin Ansin - exquisite and even better in person:

You can pick it up for a reasonable (not extortionate) price from Expresso Beans members here.

That is a great piece of art, Mel.  Do you have all of his prints now?

I have most of the ones (Bride, Phantom, Star Trek, Wolfman) I want.  I'd like to get the Metropolis too.  I can live without Parnassus.

Well this belongs in two threads actually .. This one and the unicorn thread .. But I chose this one instead because its more along the fine art side of things instead of movie art ..

Nice Fallen! Just don't be puttin' on airs thinking you're better than the "I-buy-cheesy-looking-Yoda-posters" crowd here!  8)

The seller of this print was unintentionally funny:

(1) This is a "somewhat sought after print" - kudos for honesty, thumbs down for a dumb sales slogan.

(2) "As to the reason for its possible sale, my fiancé doesn’t particularly care for this print..."  In other words, "I'm 100% catwhipped"....

LOL .. Heck no I wont be looking down upon the low brow movie art collecting community !! :P  (I bought a Yoda too! :))

As for this print.. I feel at the moment like a I got a great deal .. Its already custom framed and ready to hang .. Its also supposed to be in mint condition .. Ive see some in lesser condition sell for about the same without frames and one that was said to be in excellent condition that sold for a couple hundred more once again without a frame. So hopefully it makes it to its home safe and sound then it will be the best buy Ive had all year !!!

Nice... I like how she is chowing down on a dude in the lower left!  I almost missed it due to the graphic pen style.

I got the regular and variant 24x36 prints, but I still haven't seen the movie, even though I own the DVD...   hitself

Maybe I should watch it, so at least I know what's on the posters.

I was actually a little disappointed with my Dracula poster .. I got the black and white one as well and the lettering is amazing but the artwork inthe middle just didnt feel as clean and (to me) felt like a cheap photocopy of something else .. There could have been a lot of detail in there which i feel would have made this poster amazing .. But Im guessing photoshop is winning out over actually drawing these things anymore :(

Now you have one in front of you Mel,can i ask ? Wonka has pointed out many times that there are subtle almost subliminal additional images within some of these prints.Thats what makes some of them so exciting.
I`ve noticed the Vampire Bats head top right but is there anything that you have picked out on this one?

You know, that was my initial reaction but for some reason it looks significantly more impressive when framed.  It would look really cool in a Gothic frame. (I can't find the frame I really wanted but this one is similar.)

And Stew I haven't spotted anything not obvious.

This place has some pretty cool, big (5"+) frames for reasonable prices: http://www.wholesaleartsframes.com/categories/High-Quality-Frames/

If you want them in a flat black I know some painting techniques that would be easy...

Sorry for the poor pic, it looks much better than shown.

Paul, you gotta spring for an $80 copy of Photoshop Elements - well worth it:

Reduce shadows
Remove color cast
Correct camera distortion
Voila!

Paul's image looks far better, in my opinion.  The colors are brighter and the image itself is crisper.  The "corrected" version looks a bit washed out.
