I was going to bid on the concert poster, but maybe not.  This sale comes a little too soon after the HA signature sale.  No breathing room.

A real mix of things in the main list, Mike.

I see all of these are linen backed. Did you get them this way? Or did you do them yourself? (Were some in such condition as to "need" backing?)

In any case, they look to be doing mighty fine in the numbers dept, too!  thumbsup.gif

In general terms all the auctions seem to be doing well, there are a few bargains yet here and there, but not many!

Yes Brie, there is still time for a few pieces! Bid, pick the lowest price item and bid once then you can say you did it.

Still time to go but overall I did well and made profits on many, lost money on some, lost my shirt on others but will  in the end come out ahead I think when all is said and done. The good news is I only spent $200-300 total myself. That is a good though painful thing. I really had to reel myself in more than once on a few that are closed now.

Yes, the Sunday sale is always bad timing for me.  I'm usually at a restaurant having lunch with friends or family, and I'm not one to excuse myself and let them know that I have to bid on posters.  So I missed the sale entirely.  Thankfully, I still have Heritage at 4pm, a much more practical time.

Best profit, worst loss, Mike?  Some weird stuff at this sale, Jedi dated selling for more than Jedi undated (???), ESB Ohrai B1 selling for $30 more than B2 (???), Force Awakens crap (???), cut Jedi quad selling for more than uncut (???), in general, I thought it sold for less than I thought it would, but then again, there were not that many great pieces and not all of them were in great condition.

Agree---some weird bidding.  ROTJ insert going for $455? ESB Vader advances gong for 6 and 8 something---wow!

I ended up w/ the Polish Empire---already had one copy but it's linen-backed, wanted a non-LB version.

Also got caught up in a stupid bidder's war over an auction catalog of all things....got it for $70, but if I had an ounce of patience, could've probably scored one on eBay for less than $20.  Oh well, it's just $.

Watching like this, it truly shows that the SW fans go gaga for SW material, even when the numbers dont seem to make sense (when doing comparisons with prior sales).

I agree, some very odd numbers indeed. I for one am happy with a lot of them, at least the ones that I was selling and not as much on the ones I wanted to buy. More than one went for way over what I felt was reasonable.

For best and worst I really won't know for sure until I do a final tally. If you go by pure dollars though the best profit dollar wise was the StarFall followed by the Revenge and then the Purple Empire That would likely change though if you go by percentages. The worst I really won't know until I dig out the spread sheet and tally the actual costs on some of them. The Hungarian board game was painful to watch, if I new it would go that low I would have kept it just to put the board on the wall. It cost me more than three times that to buy and is quite rare that complete. I took a loss on quite a few pieces believe it or not after commissions come out but none that were major. For me overall in the end it was a profitable auction though and except for one or two can't complain at all.

I would have loved to buy the purple ESB, but not linenbacked.  You know my stance against linenbacking.  Why in the world did you feel the need to linenback it?

Finally commenced an official holiday unveiling for my wife yesterday - of the first printing Style A on linen domestic PG ratings Star Wars style A one-sheet - that I bought back in early April 2016 from eMoviePoster for $1,700.  If the consignor is still on these boards, I wanted to ask if he or she remembers any info about its provenance.  It's spectacular!

There's a tiny bit of waviness in the mid-upper left quadrant of the linen but you can't see it straight on.  (I prefer LB posters to lay flat when unrolled.) Perhaps there was very minor contraction during the backing and drying process.  Curious about it - but otherwise still happy because the linen is heavy and rolls flawlessly.  This poster looks like it had never been folded and was mounted for preservation - as well to make it display in a way that's just awesome.  Pics attached - one from the eMoviePoster site in pro lighting - the other as it looks on our wall in a frame - the second image is grainy because I had to use flash to avoid glare at an angle.  Happy to finally own this.

If that is from the auction that ended on April 3rd then it is one of mine that I sent over to EMP, 70+ items from that particular auction came from my collection.

If it is indeed that one then it was not wavy when sent but they can get waves to them very easily depending on how and where they are stored. Humidity can play a factor in that as well.

My drying process like most is pretty simple, mount, air dry in a humidity controlled environment, do any touch up work if it is needed especially any wet work prior to removal from the frame, etc.  Unfortunately I cannot say what happened between here, EMP and then ultimately you.

For provenance all I can say is I have had a good number of those over the years and still do have two or three left. I in case we have never spoken am an avid collector of primarily Star Wars for over 25 years specializing in posters as well as the identification of them and at one point had one of the largest Star Wars poster collections in the US behind Sansweet and a few others.

For why it was backed I also cannot honestly remember but I am sure I had one. I think this one may have been a copy I backed at a buyers request who later backed out of the purchase.

Hey, I've got no problems at all with linen-backing as a process; I've always preferred it for older items, especially for presentation purposes when pals visit.  I over-stated the wave stuff on your one-sheet - because truly, it's just a small spot that's not visible except at an angle and it's very slight at that, no more than a couple of square inches.  If you did the backing, it looks fine and it's something only a book collector like myself would spot, where every flaw gets knocked a tenth of a point or some crazy sh*t like that.  Bruce rated it in "very good to fine" condition, but of course he under grades and to me it rates, even on linen - as very fine plus to near mint.  I don't get why people slag linen-backing so long as it's non invasive.  I want such legacy posters to last a lifetime - and when it's done right and all touch-ups or other work disclosed, I've got no issues with it.

Meanwhile, yes, I won it on April 3, 2016.  It was part of a huge sale in which your SW collection was featured by Bruce prominently and there were a ton of choice items.  I consider my purchase of a "legacy" poster like this to be one of our most sentimental, e.g., not caring about its investment value and just always desiring it, especially when you consider how much more info about first and later printings and all of the other variations of all SW-related memorabilia out there - that we had back in 1977 vs. today.  Even though I collect sparingly and had 95% of my vintage collection sold off by Bruce - I bought your first printing one-sheet because if there is one person in our household who's crazier about the original 1977 film, it's my wife.  Excepting a 1940 style A from Pinocchio that I got for her back in the late 1990s (also from Bruce) - everything I've bought in the past has been for myself.

Really got to hand it to you and give you props; that was the most comprehensive sale of SW material I've ever seen.  To know that you still have a couple of these first printings left is comforting.  Legacy posters like this will always be desired - even if art on other versions is preferred by other collectors, e.g., printer's proofs, the concert poster.  For example, I've always wanted a Style C but there isn't much data about authenticity markers about it vs. the centerpiece Jung Style A, esp. about the scant few Style Cs with a PG ratings box on them.  I haven't seen one of those in a long time, just the unrated versions.  Any info you might have about this style?

Otherwise, I do own the half-sheet which in my mind, has the second best art from the 1977 original release.  Best, David (Kusumoto) in San Diego.

Linen backing posters like book restoration is very subjective. Some people are very die hard like books that anything that truly does not need it should not have it. I personally agree for the most part. Others though want everything backed to make sure it is smoothed out displaying wonderfully and is preserved for all time. Still others fall in the middle. For me I feel that if a poster is high grade and rare it should be left alone. If it is in need of restoration to prevent it from deteriorating further then it should be backed. If the poster looks like junk and is not rare do what makes you happy. That is a very basic explanation of the way I look at it. I admit I have backed more than one poster purely for aesthetics because I do not care about the value and the prices rolled vs. folded are absurd making backing a folded or lesser condition copy a cheap alternative for making a great display piece.

Thanks for the comments on the SW auction but only part of it was mine, quite a few pieces came from other collectors as well.

On Style A, C and advance B authentication are all easy to tell once you have done the research. Eventually I will write something up to help people and publish it here. In the meantime if you are looking at something that you are unsure of feel free to ask and I will always try and help out with the authentication.

The half sheet A is one of my favorites as well, still want a 24 sheet, uses the same artwork as the half sheet as well. Tough to find for a reasonable price though and if you get one you need a lot of wall space to put it up.
