Steve's (50s) Advertising posters
« on: January 30, 2016, 12:15:18 AM »
Couldn't figure where to post this one so thought I'll make my own thread for when I want to post some of my collection.

Here is a Thierry hates "French Grande" (possibly 1960's) The colours are really vivid:

(Window reflection bottom right giving a false sense of colour there):

For a sense of scale:

Thanks, some people choose to hold down their posters by using their toes, or scarab beetles or garden implements or rocks, but I chose on this occasion to use my finest bone china in keeping with the dinner theme.

Sorry Steve. Silly comment alert, but hey... What do you expect...I love that polka dot dress. And the poster is mighty nice, but I take the dress. I have a simila one indeed..there you go...

Are you going to display them at home? Congratulations.

Great graphic posters!
Love the Gevaert poster , one remark the Gevaert film is a Belgian company (now multinational Agfa -Gevaert) , so not sure if it's a Swiss version/poster, but that doesn't make any difference being stunning ...anyway...just some patriotism...
Yes, Donald Brun is a Swiss artist but he made some nice designs for other Belgian companies as well.
I have at least one laying around here for an Antwerp boating company.

If you are into those French sixties poster you should check this auction, runs for another day. And they mostly sell very cheap. Posting is in French so if you have troubles reading /translating let me know .

No not really.
I still have a weak for older stuff, Belle Époque , Art Deco and they fit better with the house interior .
The holiday house in Ostend is dated 1902 .....

But there is one I want to add to the collection for a long time
Sorry best picture I could find on the net

A bar in Ostend called Lafeyette (favorite pub off Marvin Gaye) has a big version of this one, on the wall but the boss is not willing to sell nor trade...unfortunately ...

Yeah, Donald Brun created many posters. I like the shipping poster however the Stella Artois poster is right in line with the posters I most like. Hope you find one!

Hi Jeff, they are all backed... hardly an issue in the advertising poster world compared to the movie poster world!

That last poster Vichy is my favourite of all the combined advertising and movie posters I own. That format would look great in a frame above a lounge on a big wall, because it is narrow in height.

Not sure... In my notes I have it as 1960's but it looks more 1970's
