Howdy fellow collectors!

Can anyone shed any light on whether there was an Australian release for this film? I have daybills for Parts 1, 2 and 4 and it seems inconceivable to me that Part 3 wasn't released here!

That said, however, I've yet to see even one poor quality scan of any Oz paper for this film.

If anyone can help with this mystery it would be greatly appreciated!

Har, har, har...

I did some digging on the OFLC site too. Has anyone else noticed how patchy their info is??

* There are NO results given if you do a director search for 'Amando de Ossorio'.
* A director search under 'A. de Ossorio' gives you 'Tombs of the Blind Dead'.
* A director search under 'A. de Ossori' - a typo - gives you 'Return of the Evil Dead'.
* A title search for 'Night of the Seagulls' locates the film but list the director as 'Unknown'!

So...if the OFLC database can't get the director's name right and I'm not 100% sure on what title the film may have been released in Australia under, then it could be a long search!

I've emailed them to ask for help and also to help them clean up their records.

BTW out of curiousity I also searched for 'Night of the Sorcerers' as I've got that daybill, so we know there was an Australian release. It too shows as director 'Unknown' - poor Mr. de Ossorio - can't get no love from the OFLC!

It is patchy, but remember in those days, these European directors used many names, as did their films, and there was no Internet, as you know research was done then with books, and imagine how hard it would have been to come up with some of this info. Not excusing, but I know it took the Internet to realise some things like HEY WTF JOE BLOGS IS ALSO JOSE BLOGAMISSIMO, etc.

It is fun browsing the  database though, look some time at the refused classification titles, some are things like CD#356 confiscated Sydney airport, contains xxx etc

The mystery continues...

I've been unable to locate ANY OFLC information for The Ghost Galleon. There seems to be no mention of it being refused classification either!

I posted a request on a Spanish horror forum to see if they had any other titles that the film may be known as and I was given 'Horror of the Evil Dead' as another viable alternative, but that too gives no results.

It's almost as though no-one even tried to release it in Australia!

But my searching has revealed some other great horror titles that were released in Australia such as William Girdler's great early films 'Three on a Meathook' and 'Satan's Spectrum (A.K.A Asylum of Satan)'. My search for one daybill has thrown up a dozen more titles to hunt for!  :D

Three on a meat hook was release on video in Australia, I've never seen a cinema poster.
Also a lot of this stuff had no posters, I've seen newspaper clippings for all sorts of films in oz I. The seventies that I've never seen a poster for. Or perhaps they had home made or silk screen daybills.
I recently got a RAPE SQUAD daybill, who would have guess that screened? It's silk screen el cheap job.
But never seen another Aussie poster for it before.

The OFLC have just sent an answer:

Thank you for your email of 20 November 2013 regarding the classification of the film El Burque Maldito, alternative title Ghost Galleon.

Our records show an Italian language, Spanish film titled Ghost Galleon (El Galeon Fantasma) directed by Amando De Ossorio was submitted for registration to the Film Censorship Board  under the Customs (Cinemotograph films) Regulations, in 1983.

However, the applicant, I.E. International/Cinehollywood, did not proceed with seeking classification of the film which is recorded as RNC (Registered Not Classified).

To date, there is no record of the film having been submitted for classification for release in Australia.

So there you go - no release, no daybill  :-\
