If this isn't the right place for this, then could some kind person please move it - I've had a good look and haven't found any other thread where this would fit better...
Anyway, have any of you had that strange experience of competing with the same bidder time and time again for the same pieces? I'm not exaggerating when I say that I come up against the same person on almost every lot that I bid on in Bruce's auctions - Warshaw21. If any of you are he/she, let me just say - you have excellent taste and deep pockets, friend!

I believe everyone has a mirror collector, I would swear for years a couple people were bidding just because they saw my id on something because it always seemed to be the same people I would get stepped on by.
-
Not me :) yahooo
-
Yes, at least two of them, one's a member here.... :-\

ma500969 Congratulations Way Down East is all yours!
I was the underbidder I tried.. I really wanted that poster... oh well... next time I suppose
Agree. I want what s/he wants. If I see him/her again bidding I ....I. ..Don't know what I would do..

I have a mirror in my gambling collection.
he is also one of my own customers, but his interests are a bit more limited (he wants lc's and posters that actually show gambling chips. no chips? no interest)
we'll both bid on something - say a 2-3 card lot - and if he wins, he'll email asking if I'm interested in the 2 he isn't, but the problem is we're both interested in the 1 card
-
How many times must this happen before someone can say one has a "mirror collector" or competitor?
It is bound to happen to any that bid, a handful of times (same genres, or decade), so that the random few times we have all experienced this is much different than what Lost Silents was asking and suggesting, namely, when it happens time after time after time with the same mirror bidder.
-
I assumed mirror means it happens more often than not and with the same one.

What about someone like marklawd... I think he is the mirror for like 13-15 different people -- including myself! ;D

Star-crossed sounds too lovey dovey for when this situation arises. I know I certainly do not feel like I have a poster soul mate when they continuously battle me!
It feels more like a poster marriage :P

That's no mirror, it's a space station!

Doppelganger? (As opposed to star-crossed)

Definitely need a word invented to describe this phenomenon.

What would be a word to describe this situation - wife and I are pissed at each other/its monday morning/I'm tired/hungover/hungry/getting crapped on at work...etc. Then out of the blue I get a text message. Its my wife:
"Poster tube just delivered"

This is known as the "I now need to buy flowers on the way home from work" situation

I remember the couple times I beat out 'ingagi'. Felt like doing cartwheels.
